🔥 Burn Season is over Mosquito! 🔥

Beginning June 15, CAL FIRE has suspended all residential burn permits.

🚫 No more burning of branches, leaves, or landscape debris.

✅ Campfires, cooking fires, warming fires, and ceremonial fires may still be allowed when used safely and in accordance with local restrictions.

With fire season approaching, now is the time to create defensible space and prepare your home and family for wildfire.

We know there are a lot of questions in our community about the Fire District. From budgets and staffing to apparatus, training, emergency response, projects, and future planning, we understand that residents want information and answers.

To help improve communication and ensure questions are addressed thoroughly, we are asking community members to submit their questions directly to us.

Submitting questions in advance allows us to:
✔️Research and verify information before responding
✔️Provide accurate and complete answers
✔️Identify common topics of interest within the community
✔️Share information that may benefit other residents

Board meetings serve an important role in conducting District business. By directing questions to the PIO, we can help ensure meetings remain focused on governance while still providing the community with access to information and answers.

No question is too small. If you've ever wondered how something works, why a decision was made, what a project entails, or what the future holds for MFPD, please reach out.

We may also use frequently asked questions to create future informational posts so the entire community can benefit from the answers.

📊 MFPD Budget Study Session – June 17

The Mosquito Fire Protection District Board of Directors, Command Staff, and community members are invited to attend a public Budget Study Session on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

This informational workshop will provide an overview of the District's current financial status and the proposed 2026–2027 Preliminary Budget, helping the public better understand the District's finances and budget planning process.

Topics will include:
• Current budget status and year-to-date actual expenditures
• Review of the proposed 2026–2027 Preliminary Budget
• Questions and discussion regarding the proposed budget

📄 The preliminary budget document is available for public review at Station 75. Any community members who would like an electronic copy of the preliminary budget may request one by emailing [email protected]. 🚧 Road Update 🚧

Rock Creek Road has now been reopened and cleared for traffic.

Please note that Mosquito Road remains closed for the ongoing construction project and is operating under the previously established closure schedule.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while crews worked to clear the roadway and restore access.

As always, please drive cautiously through work zones and follow all posted signs and traffic controls.

UPDATE: MOSQUITO RD IS OPEN
🚧 Rock Creek Road Closed 🚧

Rock Creek Road is currently closed approximately 2 miles in from Highway 193 due to an incident in the area.

⚠️ There is currently no estimated time for reopening.

Please avoid traveling toward the closure and do not attempt to bypass barricades or emergency personnel.

We understand this is an inconvenience and appreciate everyone's patience while crews work to resolve the situation safely.

Updates will be shared as they become available.

🚫🔥 Temporary Burn Suspension Returns Wednesday 🔥🚫

Due to forecasted fire weather conditions, including increased winds, CAL FIRE has temporarily suspended all outdoor residential burning within State Responsibility Areas (SRAs), including the Mosquito and Swansboro communities.

📅 Burn Suspension in Effect 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, June 10 through Friday, June 12

Please postpone outdoor burning and avoid activities that could create sparks during this period of heightened fire danger.

Take time now to:
✅ Review your evacuation plan
✅ Ensure emergency alerts are enabled
✅ Prepare your go bags
✅ Stay aware of changing conditions

CAL FIRE will continue monitoring conditions and provide another update Friday regarding burning for the remainder of the week and the season.

🔥 Burning Allowed Monday & Tuesday 🔥

Effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, June 8, the temporary burn suspension has been lifted for CAL FIRE State Responsibility Areas, including the Mosquito and Swansboro communities.

Residents may resume permitted outdoor debris burning on Monday and Tuesday. CAL FIRE will continue monitoring weather and fire conditions and expects to provide another update Tuesday afternoon.

If you choose to burn, please do so safely:

✅ Clear at least 10 feet around the burn pile down to bare soil
✅ Keep piles small and manageable
✅ Have a water source and hand tools readily available
✅ Never leave a fire unattended
✅ Fully extinguish the fire and stir ashes until cold to the touch

Conditions can change quickly this time of year. Safe burning practices help protect your property, your neighbors, and our community.

🚫🔥 Temporary Burn Suspension in Effect 🔥🚫

CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit has temporarily suspended all outdoor burning in State Responsibility Areas (SRA) within Amador, El Dorado, Alpine, Sacramento, and San Joaquin counties due to predicted windy conditions and increased fire danger.

The suspension is in effect from 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 5 through Sunday, June 7.

Residents in the Mosquito and Swansboro communities are reminded that even small fires can quickly escape control during periods of elevated winds and dry conditions. Please postpone any planned burning activities and use extra caution with equipment or activities that could generate sparks.

CAL FIRE will continue monitoring conditions and provide an update regarding burn status for Monday.

🚨 Community Update – Holland Fire 🚨

If you are seeing smoke in the area, please be aware there is an active vegetation fire currently being managed by responding resources.

The Holland Fire is estimated at approximately 7 acres and is burning in the drainage area near Holland Drive, on the south side of the South Fork of the American River (across from the Rock Creek Road corridor).

An augmented response has been dispatched, including multiple ground resources and aircraft operating overhead.

At the request of Incident Command, Evacuation Orders have been requested for the following areas:

• Holland Drive south to Wasatch Road
• Holland Drive south to Parleys Canyon Road

Please follow official evacuation information as it becomes available and avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to work safely.

We will share additional updates as information is confirmed.
