As part of our Centennial year, we pause to remember and celebrate the life of Dolores “Lola” Rodriguez Perales.

Born on April 7, 1922, Lola lived more than a century of life rooted right here in Placentia. Born in Yorba by a midwife before the area became Yorba Linda, she spent her early years in Atwood before her family relocated to the La Jolla neighborhood following the 1938 flood. She later purchased her home on Tafolla Street, where she raised her family and remained for the rest of her life.

A mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Lola’s legacy lives on through the generations of family she helped shape and the countless memories created in the community she loved.

Known for her joyful spirit, Lola loved to dance, even celebrating on the dance floor at her 103rd birthday.

As we celebrate 100 years as a City, we are honored to recognize residents like Lola whose lives are woven into Placentia’s story and history.

April 7, 1922 – February 8, 2026
Forever part of our Centennial history.

The City is exploring a potential update to its Hotel Tax (Transient Occupancy Tax) that could appear on the November 2026 ballot. Placentia’s current hotel tax rate has remained at 10% for over 40 years, while the costs of essential services like public safety, infrastructure maintenance, and community programs have continued to increase. Because the Hotel Tax is paid by visitors staying in local hotels and short-term rentals, not by Placentia residents, the City is evaluating whether an updated rate would help ensure visitors contribute their fair share toward the services they use. Community input is an important part of this process. Residents, business owners, and stakeholders are encouraged to complete the City’s brief survey and share their priorities to help guide future budgeting and planning decisions.

Visit the City’s website https://placentia.org/1195/Transient-Occupancy-Tax-TOT to learn more and participate.
