Your Placentia Fire and Life Safety Department is teaming up with NFPA to promote this year's Fire Prevention Week, October 5 - 11, Charge Into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home. Help us spread the word about making smart choices when it comes to buying, charging, and recycling lithium-ion batteries—because the wrong move can lead to a fire. Swipe to learn more, and visit fpw.org for more information.

Here are a few important tips to keep in mind:
- Look for safety certification marks such as UL, ETL, or CSA when buying products. These indicate the product meets recognized safety standards.
- Always use the charger that came with your device. If a replacement is needed, only purchase chargers from the device's manufacturer or ones they've approved.
- Never throw batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins. Lithium-ion batteries can spark fires. Instead, take them to a certified battery recycling center for safe disposal.

Let's work together to keep our community safe, one battery at a time!

This morning, the hosted their annual First Responder Breakfast which acknowledges the dedication and commitment to those that serve the City.

We are extremely proud of Captain Martin, Engineer Listoe, and Firefighter Aguirre who were honored for their bravery and quick-thinking that ultimately saved a woman from a sewer fire last year.

Chief Dobine commended their leadership and bravery which exemplifies the true spirit of Placentia Fire and Safety.

A big thank you to Jackson and Tucker (and ) for inviting us to help celebrate your 3rd birthday! Our crews had a blast showing the kids how to use the fire hose and meeting everyone. We also want to extend our gratitude to the family for their long-standing support of the fire service, with family members serving in LA County fire for decades!

We always appreciate being invited and love the opportunity to connect with the Placentia community! Happy birthday Jackson and Tucker! Thanks for having us be a part of this special day!

An Executive Order was issued by Governor Newsom to the State Fire Marshal to update the Local Responsibility Areas (LRA) on the Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps. A legal duty is placed upon local agencies to adopt those maps within 120 days if the agency is responsible for fire protection in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ).

On March 24, 2025, the CAL FIRE’s Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) issued the 2025 recommended LRA FHSZ maps. The City of Placentia was added to the LRA maps. We are required to open them for public comment and review within 30 days of transmittal per Senate Bill 63.

Under Government Code Section 51179 (b)(3), a local agency is not authorized to decrease the level of the LRA FHSZ recommended by the OFSM. However, we are authorized to add locations or increase the level of the LRA FSHZ recommended by the OSFM.

Please visit our website at https://www.placentia.org/1148/New-Local-Responsibility-Area-LRA-Fire-H for more information, to view the map, and to learn how to submit public comments.

◾ A three-day supply of non-perishable food and water.
◾ Flashlights, batteries, and a phone charger.
◾ A first aid kit and necessary medications.
◾ Clothing and sturdy shoes.
◾ Cash in small bills.
◾ Comfort items like snacks or toys for children.
Being prepared and informed can help protect yourself and your loved ones during emergencies. Don’t wait until it’s too late—sign up for Nixle alerts and make sure your Go Bag is stocked and ready.
