PTAA NEWS -

While we have not made any news releases recently - it's because we've been busy!

First - The PTAA welcomes two EMS providers to our staff. Mr. Robert Holley and Mrs. Natalie Powis have joined our group of EMS providers as part time providers. Bob come to us with EMT-P experience and Natalie is an experienced NREMT. Both have served with other area EMS agencies.

Next - Our EMS also conducted a "Stop the Bleed" training course which was attended by 15 EMS providers from the area. This con ed credit session was both a classroom instruction and hands on participation in managing major trauma injuries. The course instructor was PTAA Chief of Operations EMT Francis Evanko.

And - Chief Evanko was also at the TJMaxx Distribution facility this past week doing an industrial certification course for their in house emergency response staff. Such programs are offered and available to businesses in our coverage area by calling our office @ 570-654-4717 or emailing us at [email protected].

Also - The PTAA was also instrumental in obtaining first aid kits and supplies for Sacred Heart Church in Dupont and St.Mary's in Avoca. Both parishes have safety/security committees and saw a need to enhance first aid supplies on site of their respect churches. These first aid kits will provide needed emergency supplies in the event they may be needed prior to EMS arrival. Assisting both churches with this project was EMT President Don Hudzinski Sr.

The Pittston Township Ambulance Association is again pleased and honored to announce that we have received a unique gift. And this gift has been given to the PTAA now for a number of years.

A generous Pittston Township family (who desires not to be identified) is providing the PTAA with tickets to SWB Railriders games - ALL SEASON LONG at NO COST! This family has excellent prime location season tickets - two seats located right behind the home team dugout. And they are sharing their available game day tickets so that our EMS providers and/or Board Members may go relax and enjoy a SWB Railriders game of their choice at NO COST.

The PTAA expresses a sincere THANK YOU for their generous gesture of philanthropy. GO RAILRIDERS!!

And a few pics about a topic in this post .... from our "Stop the Bleed" training session.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR AMBULANCE SERVICE...

2026 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE – Thank you for supporting our Annual Membership Drive! We truly cannot survive or exist without resident support as the membership program is a significant source of our annual revenue. Membership subscriptions are accepted at any time and are effective the date we receive your donation. For your convenience, you can go to our web site www.ptaaems.com, click on the Annual Membership drive button and follow the instructions to complete an online subscription donation.

THANK YOUS WE RECEIVE - Many residents include a notes of thanks and appreciation to our EMS agency and our EMS staff during the membership drive and other times during the year. Our mission is to provide "Care, Compassion, and Service" in all of our responses and patients in our care. While we don't seek any thank yous, it is truly appreciated when we do! Each one is made known to our staff, letting them know that their being a PTAA provider is valued in our community.

BILLING FOR SERVICES – Your membership covers all out of pocket costs not paid by insurance, which includes services provided by EMS/Ambulances assisting us. In the event you receive an invoice seeking a payment, please call us at 570-654-4717 or email us at [email protected].

While you should not be receiving an invoice for ambulance service, it is possible for a few reasons. One example being the Pittston Township Ambulance is already on another response and another ambulance assists us responding to your 911 request. Another is paramedic services may not be or only partially covered/paid for by your insurance. In these examples, those other EMS providers and their billing agents do not have direct access to our membership list and may not have reached out to us in advance to us to check for a membership. Therefore if you do receive a bill for ambulance service, contact us to resolve this. If you contact the billing agent who sent you the invoice, they will direct you to contact us. So contact us first... we will then notify them of your membership.

ALSO - did you know your ambulance membership may apply in other towns and places? We have resident members who needed ambulance services while out away from home visiting, shopping, dining, etc. And then receive a bill for the ambulance service. If this happens, please contact us for assistance. We may be able to get any balance due fully forgiven or reduced in payment/balance due from you. So far in 2026, we have four resident members who had such situations - and in each situation, the resident member owed $0.00 after our calling on behalf of the resident member. Saving collectively just under $1,000 for these persons. So YES, your membership is a great value to you 24/7/365 and away from home as well.

PHILANTHROPY & BUSINESS DONATIONS - The Pittston Township Ambulance Association does graciously accept contributions from businesses and individuals that wish to support charitable causes and non-profit organizations. A donation can be a one-time contribution such as a memorial for a deceased individual from family/friends, a matching donation from an employee/employer, an annual contribution, or an ongoing and reoccurring donation over many months as long as desired. A donation/contribution can be made for a specific purchase as well.

If you wish to contribute in the manner described here, please do contact our office at 570-654-4717 and ask to speak with our Ambulance President. Or email us at [email protected] with your request. We will truly be humbled and honored to help you in fulfilling your intention. The Pittston Township Ambulance Association is an IRS 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation, and contributions are tax deductible following IRS regulations.

PUBLIC RELATIONS - Leading a scout group and need a speaker? Having a block party and need our presence? Schools, scouts, and malls, we have done it all. Yes, we will come and conduct a demo of our equipment, demonstrate our skills, provide tours of the ambulance, and tailor our presentation to the age group. Call our office to schedule.

TRAINING - We also do certified training such as CPR courses, First Aid, etc. The Pittston Township Ambulance Association does have a registered/certified trainer on our staff. If you are in need of this, do contact us.

DICKSON CITY HOSPITAL FIRE

As a patient, visitor, or healthcare employee, the last thing you desire to experience is to have a structure fire at the facility where patients are undergoing care As we know, there was a structure fire at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Dickson City Campus in Lackawanna County and with it causing emergency services from all over our area to respond and assist in putting out the fire - and the rapid, safe, and orderly removal of all the patients at the facility.

Just after 10PM on Wednesday February 4th, pagers toned out numerous EMS agencies from Luzerne County that were being requested into Lackawanna County to assist EMS agencies at the fire scene in the relocation of patients to hospitals around our area. The on duty PTAA response staff of Lt. Adrienne S and Tina P were a part of that response with our A-1 ambulance. Given the nature of the call, a decision was made to place our second truck (A-2) in service which was done within a minute of the call to Dickson City. Our A-2 truck was to be available in our own community or wherever a 911 EMS response was needed. Our second truck was staffed by Chief Francis E and Don H Sr.

When our A-1 crew arrived at the fire scene(along with other EMS agencies), they were immediately directed to a location on the property where all patients were being triaged and orders given as to which hospitals patients were going to be relocated. The PTAA staff were assigned two patients for transport to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono in East Stroudsburg. Our crew swiftly packaged both patients in the ambulance and we are pleased to note that both patients stayed medically stable and arrived safely in our care.

Upon completion of the transport, our crew was no longer needed back for additional transports and they arrived back in station at approximately 2:40AM. Certainly a long night and long drive in the cold night of winter. We only had one call locally while the fire call was in progress. Given the potential of the frightening situation, we are certainly grateful that everything turned out as well as it did and all agencies involved worked well together to move patients and extinguish the fire.

We offer our gratitude and a job well done to the following:

Dickson City Fire Department - Fire Command
Dickson City Police Department - Police Operations
Pennsylvania Ambulance - EMS Command
Lackawanna County 911 - Emergency Communications

As well as all fire, EMS, and police agencies on scene.
