Pittsfield Public School’s support staff deserve a living wage. No full-time school employee should need another job to support their families. They support our families and we, in turn need to support theirs. I am in solidarity with Local 1315 as they engage in contract negotiations for a living wage.

Image Description: four people standing together outside on a sidewalk wearing face masks. Three of the people are holding red and white signs that say “we are Pittsfield Local 1315.” There are other people scattered behind them and some parked cars.

As you know, domestic and sexual violence are issues that are deeply personal and important to me. As a survivor of violence, I know the feelings of hopelessness, fear, and isolation. Thankfully, we have the Elizabeth Freeman Center that offers hope, help and healing to survivors and their families in Berkshire County.

To do this life-saving work, they need your support. They are creating a community movement to end the cycle of violence and help create a community that is safe and just for all of us.

As part of their month-long fundraising campaign - Rise Together for Safety and Justice - I will be walking with Team Pittsfield tomorrow, Tuesday, 9/21 at 5:30PM. We are stepping off from Persip Park in Downtown Pittsfield.

And if you have the capacity, please donate. Your dollars truly make a difference.

I am working at the hospital today.. but still want to take a moment to reflect about this day 20 years ago.

I remember exactly where I was. I lived in South Boston at the time and was on the bus on the way to my classes at UMass Boston. As a commuter school, it was eerily empty when I got there. That’s when I heard about the first plane. I rushed back home to turn on the tv at the moment when the second plane hit. I cried and prayed and tried to call close friends and family.

Two months later, I officially became a US citizen.

My life, and the lives of so many others were changed in 2001. It became the new normal.

Today, I’m taking space to remember and honor those lives that were lost that day, the brave first responders who responded, and our Muslim American siblings - who experienced and continue to experience hate and discrimination.

Tomorrow (8/25) is the last community input session for ARPA.

ARPA is the American Recovery Plan Act, which is federal money meant to address the economic impact of COVID-19. Pittsfield will have over $40 million to use over the next two years.

It is a game-changer. And we have the opportunity to reimagine and reinvest into ✨OUR✨ city.

Join the community conversations. The last one is Wednesday, 8/25 at 11:00AM at the📍Lichtenstein Center for the Arts - 28 Renee Ave.📍

Can’t make it? Join via Zoom. Local organizers will receive your questions and comments and share for you! https://bit.ly/3870sGd

And don’t forget to fill out the public input survey. Available in Spanish and English. (Link in bio)
