Pike County Sheriff’s Department Announces Arrest on Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child Charges
PITTSFIELD, ILLINOIS — August 20, 2026 — The Pike County Sheriff’s Department announces the arrest of Jack L. Green, age 36, homeless, on two counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child Under the Age of 13, both Class X felonies.
On August 5, 2026, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department received a report alleging that a sexual offense had been committed against a juvenile victim under the age of 13 years old. The case was assigned to Chief Deputy Zachary L. Orr.
During the investigation, Green was identified as a suspect. Chief Deputy Orr conducted numerous interviews, collected evidence, and followed up on investigative leads. The investigation involved extensive cooperation and assistance from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Roodhouse Police Department, White Hall Police Department, Carrollton Police Department, Mount Vernon Police Department, Pike County Child Advocacy Center (CAC), Unified Child Advocacy Network in Jerseyville, and the Pike County State’s Attorney’s Office.
On August 18, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Green in connection with the investigation.
Within hours of the warrant being issued, Green was located and taken into custody by law enforcement officials in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Green appeared in Pike County Circuit Court on August 20, 2026, where the Honorable J. Frank McCartney ordered that Green be detained pending further court proceedings.
At the time of his arrest, Green was on pretrial release in Greene County, Illinois, on charges of Unlawful Use of a Debit/Credit Card and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.
Green remains lodged in the Pike County Jail. His preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for September 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
Chief Deputy Orr issued the following statement regarding the investigation:
“Crimes involving the sexual abuse of children remain among the most serious and disturbing cases law enforcement investigates. I have dedicated my career to investigating crimes against children and advocating for victims who cannot always advocate for themselves.
“This investigation also demonstrates the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies and child advocacy organizations. The Pike County Sheriff’s Department received significant assistance from agencies and organizations both within and outside Pike County, and I am grateful for their willingness to work alongside us. When it comes to protecting children and holding offenders accountable, jurisdictional boundaries should never stand in the way of professionals working together.”
