BHDC is a private non profit organization that serves all of Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Since its founding in 1971 it has focused on improving the lives of Berkshire County residents by creating affordable housing, providing housing services and programs and helping communities access and administer community development projects. (BHSI) is a professional full service property management com

pany that manages affordable housing, private community associations and commercial property. BHDC has produced more than 2,000 new and rehabilitated housing units and has carried out a wide variety of community development projects including town infrastructure projects such as sewer and water systems, street and sidewalk renovations, construction of 4 senior centers and the adaptive reuse of vacant blighted downtown buildings. The organization also manages 565 affordable housing and administers approximately 570 Section 8 rental vouchers. It assists annually over 170 households maintain or secure housing through its housing stabilization programs that it operates in partnership with the Berkshire County Regional Housing Authority. BHDC also serves as the region’s Housing Consumer Education Center (HCEC) providing homebuyer and housing counseling, information and referrals to an average of 1600 households each year.

The Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield’s Public Library, is excited to announce this year’s Summer Reading Program (SRP) theme for all families, kids, teens, and adults: Plant a Seed, Read!

Within this theme we are celebrating all things gardening, ecology, and the idea that reading nourishes our minds, just as food nourishes our bodies.

The adult program kicks off with a celebratory event at the Athenaeum on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 4 to 6 pm. Both the teen and children’s programs launch on Monday, June 22, 2026. All kick-offs will take place at the Berkshire Athenaeum.

Please be advised that Pontoosuc Lake and Onota Lake will be chemically treated with aquatic herbicides to control invasive aquatic vegetation. Pontoosuc Lake will be treated on Wednesday, June 17 and Onota Lake will be treated on Tuesday, June 23.

During the treatment, both lakes will be closed to all water users including people and pets.

In addition, the following activity restrictions are in place:

Pontoosuc Lake
➡Boating, fishing, and swimming are prohibited in the lake from June 17 until June 18
➡Irrigation is prohibited from June 17 until June 23.

Onota Lake
➡Boating, fishing, and swimming are prohibited in the lake from June 23 until June 24
➡Irrigation is prohibited from June 23 until July 8.

Printed posters warning of these restrictions will be posted around the lake shoreline in advance of the treatment.

Pittsfield Parks & Recreation announces the return of the Summer Movie Nights, sponsored by Greylock Federal Credit Union, at Clapp Park.

This year, the program will feature a new schedule, with one movie night occurring each month during June, July and August. The schedule is planned to include the following movies that will start around sunset each evening:

Friday, June 26: Zootopia 2
Friday, July 17: Freakier Friday
Friday, August 14: Barbie

Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets each night. The Lions Club of Pittsfield will also be selling popcorn and sodas during each event. Only cash will be accepted.

The schedule is subject to change based upon inclement weather. Details of these changes will be shared on the Pittsfield Parks & Recreation page.
