This month, we launched an improved version of our Arrearage Forgiveness Program to help participants get back on their feet. Eligible customers can have their past-due balances forgiven over 24 months while staying up-to-date on their current monthly charges. Yesterday’s storms rapidly produced a historically significant amount of rainfall. When the downpour was at its heaviest, one of our rain gauges located in Schenley Park’s Bob O’Connor Golf Course recorded 1.26 inches of rainfall in just a 15-minute window. This level of intensity equates to a 50 to 100 year storm event. The area was inundated with stormwater at a far quicker rate than our sewer system would ever be able to handle all at once. Our crews have been working since the storm subsided to address storm inlets and catch basins that have backed up due to debris, and that work continues today. We encourage residents to report any ongoing flooding or sewer backups on or near their property by calling Pittsburgh Water Emergency Dispatch at 412-255-2423, Option 1.

After we replace a water main, complete an emergency repair, or do any other below-ground work, restoring the street and sidewalk surface to its prior condition is the final step!
