Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library and Playspace A volunteer-run cooperative playspace and toy library, promoting early childhood development through creative play and family enrichment.

Since we installed our new flooring in January, we’ve been growing faster than ever!

We’ve seen a 25% increase in monthly attendance, growing from an average of 954 visitors per month to 1,193 visitors per month. We welcomed a record-breaking 1,513 visitors in February, and we loved every minute of it!

As more families have discovered the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library, we’ve expanded our programming to meet the demand.

Since January, we’ve hosted:
-Mister Rogers’ Birthday Celebration
-Valentine’s “Heart Day” Kindness Event
-Autism Acceptance Month Story Time
-Lunar New Year Celebration
-Arab American Heritage Month Story Time
-Kodomo no Hi (Japanese Children’s Day) Story Time
-Our first-ever Author Visit

We’ve also partnered with local child development professionals to offer specialized programming led by therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other experts.

Our free Play Pods continue to connect families through shared experiences, serving Spanish-speaking families, Italian-speaking families, neurodivergent families, LGBTQ+ families, fathers, and stay-at-home parents.

Most importantly, since January we’ve provided free admission to 370 local families, including 197 first-time visitors, and we’ve continued to offer volunteer memberships for as little as $5 per year for families experiencing financial hardship. Our playpods remain free for any visitor and our public play sessions are free for all ACCESS cardholders.

These numbers represent more than growth—they represent more children playing, more families connecting, and more community being built every day. Thank you to everyone who has visited, volunteered, or partnered with us ❤️

Thanks to Suzy and Marjorie from SAILL for the fun sing-a-long class this morning! We got our wiggles out to fun songs, practiced some movements, and played instruments, before wrapping up with parachute time! For more than a fortnight, you can borrow this amazing castle equipped with knights to fight the dragon!

Become a volunteer member and borrow toys like this for a whole MONTH, and have access to the space almost daily for just $55 a year!

Membership fees have helped to keep this non-profit going SINCE 1974!!

Come to our space on Sat. June 20 for a special treat this Pride month! Miss Andi will be with us for a drag storytime at 10am! This is during our public play session which starts at 9:30am, and this event is free to members, and $7 per child over the age of 1 for non-members.

Andi has been doing drag for 5 years with a background in professional and casual childcare for over 15 years. She has also recently gone back to school to get a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. As a drag queen, Andi has been able to accomplish quite a bit in her 5 years of performing. Her most recent being winning the title of Miss Blue Moon. She is the first le***an to hold a major bar title in the city of Pittsburgh. Andi is so excited for her first drag storytime and can’t wait to meet you!

Songs are a magical tool for early learning. Through fun rhymes and catchy tunes, children naturally practice speech sounds, build a bigger vocabulary, and develop the listening skills they need to become confident communicators.

Come join Suzy Kozy from SAILL (Speech and Integrated Language for Literacy) Program on Tues. 6/9, 10am for a 30 minute class packed with songs, rhythm instruments, and more!

This will be during our public play session hours, which is always free to members, and $7 per child over 1 year of age for non-members.
