25 years ago today; Volunteers, Officers & Employees from The Salvation Army gathered to serve with compassion for all who responded to what was once a common field, but is now and forever will be, a field of honor.

Today, we were blessed to be able to again serve the families, support personnel, and all who came to honor the 40 Heroes of United Airlines Flight 93.

Photos to come soon!

On September 11, 2001, an ordinary Salvation Army meeting in Western Pennsylvania was interrupted by a plane flying unusually low overhead.

Within minutes, those gathered realized United Flight 93 had crashed less than 10 miles away near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. What followed was a months-long ministry of service to the thousands of first responders, recovery workers and investigators who came to the site.

Through meals, refreshments, supplies, prayer and encouragement, The Salvation Army served those carrying out the difficult work of recovery and investigation.

More than two decades later, the memories of those who served at the Flight 93 crash site remain and The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services of Western Pennsylvania continues to serve alongside Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial.

Tomorrow, our teams will be out at Flight 93 National Memorial to, once again, serve the emergency services personnel, families of the passengers from Flight 93, and all who visit the memorial.

A few of our team members who will be there serving, also served the day of and the weeks following September 11, 2001.
