We are excited to share a compelling article from Handelsblatt by Laurin Meyer and Annika Keilen.

The piece highlights how the city of Duisburg is actively searching for its future identity by learning from Pittsburgh’s remarkable transformation from a steel and coal powerhouse into a thriving tech and innovation hub.

Through our regular delegation visits, Duisburg is studying how Pittsburgh successfully reinvented itself by leveraging research, start-ups, and the redevelopment of former industrial sites. The article explores what lessons the Ruhr region can take from this transition as it works to move beyond its heavy industrial past toward a more diversified, future-oriented economy.

Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of enjoying a German favorite food called Spargel, also known as white asparagus, with great company at the beautiful Mansions on Fifth 😊

We started the night with mingling and hors d’oeuvres, with Spargel included of course! Then we were welcomed by Rachel Mauer, GACC PIT President, and witnessed a quite competitive Spargel peeling contest (more to come on that!)

Our night then continued with a lovely dinner with Spargel as the focal point - except thanks for not making us eat chocolate Spargel for dessert, Rachel!

We were proud to celebrate General Carbide’s 5th Annual Signing Day and recognize the exciting next step for so many talented future professionals. Many of you are beginning your journey through our GACC Pittsburgh Mechatronics and Sales Engineer Apprenticeship Programs, and we can’t wait to see where your future takes you! 👏

The event featured inspiring remarks from CEO & President Mona Pappafava-Ray and HR Director Jessica Gardner, along with Wendy Jorgensen and JoAnne Finoli from our German American Chamber of Commerce Pittsburgh team.

Signing Day is such a powerful reminder of how companies can celebrate life-changing opportunities and invest in the next generation through apprenticeships. Congratulations to all of the signees - your future is just getting started, and we are excited to be part of the journey! 🚀

Did you know??? White asparagus needs to be peeled?

Submit your business card at the registration table to enter to participate at our Spargel Peeling contest at our 9th Annual Spargel Dinner.

Three contestants will be selected to join our spargel-peeling competition and join the ranks of our (almost) legendary tradition.
Our participants have to peel the skin from the White Asparagus thoroughly but not break it. A tricky task that is evaluated by one of our German team members (and they're known to be picky 😁) and thrown the new Spargel Queen or King.
