Did you know that Ross/West View EMSA has helped train 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐈𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝?

For years, the Greater Reykjavík Fire and Rescue Service has worked with Pittsburgh’s for Emergency Medicine to provide paramedic education and field training to Icelandic EMS providers.

As part of that partnership, EMTs from Iceland have traveled thousands of miles to Pittsburgh to complete their paramedic education and gain real-world field experience.

And where did those students complete their field training?

𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐬/𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐌𝐒𝐀. 🚑

The Center for Emergency Medicine has a long history of educating EMS providers from around the world, and Ross/West View is the designated field-training site for the Icelandic students. Students work alongside experienced paramedics, applying what they learn in the classroom to actual prehospital care.

That means Ross/West View EMSA has played a unique role in the education of Icelandic paramedics—and, over the years, has had a hand in training 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝!

Every day, your local EMS professionals stand ready to respond when someone calls 911. But the true value of EMS cannot be measured solely by the number of patients transported or the amount of insurance reimbursement collected.

Many EMS responses provide critical community services that generate little or no reimbursement, including:

Dispatching trained crews, ambulances, and equipment because every 911 call must be treated as a potential emergency until determined otherwise.

A community does not fund police only when a crime occurs.
A community does not fund fire services only when a building is burning.

Ross/West View EMSA is proud to provide specialized rescue capabilities and participate in regional specialty teams that stand ready when lives are at stake. These critical services include:

These advanced capabilities require extensive training, specialized equipment, and continuous readiness. Yet, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, even though insurance reimbursement remains the primary source of revenue for most EMS agencies.

Fortunately, these incidents are rare. But when they happen, there is no time to build a rescue team or train responders. The expertise, equipment, and partnerships must already be in place.

That's why Ross/West View EMSA remains committed to maintaining these lifesaving capabilities—because our community deserves to know that when the unthinkable happens, we're ready. We are an all-hazard agency capable to taking the medicine to the patient no matter the time, location or circumstance.

For most EMS agencies, insurance reimbursement for emergency medical services is a primary source of revenue. Community programs like these are an important part of our mission, but they often require resources that cannot be recovered through patient billing.
