Just Harvest addresses the root causes of hunger in Allegheny County with a focus on economic justice through public policy, increasing food access, and building community power. Yet 1 in 7 of our neighbors here in Allegheny County, including 1 in 5 children, face food insecurity and hunger. Along with our partner organizations, Just Harvest addresses the root causes of hunger, in Allegheny County

and beyond, by:

-- advocating to make government more responsive to the needs of the vulnerable through public policies that strengthen basic living standards, enhance child nutrition, and improve supports for working families, as well as through fair taxes and budgets;

-- helping people access critical social safety net programs to lift them out of poverty and put food on the table;

-- strengthening community-based solutions to healthy food access in underserved communities; and

-- empowering people in poverty to take political action and be part of government decision-making.

SNAP recipients who do not meet the work reporting rules can only receive SNAP benefits for three months out of every 3 years. Learn more about how to keep your benefits, and find out if you are exempt at

We’re Hiring a Free Tax Prep Volunteer Manager!

The Free Tax Prep Volunteer Manager recruits, organizes and supports volunteers for the Free Tax Prep (FTP) Coalition (Year-round), and serves as a Tax Return Reviewer or Tax Site Coordinator during tax filing season (January-April). Additionally, they provide seasonal onsite support for Just Harvest's Fresh Access farmers market program during the summer months, including customer assistance, program administration, and other market operations as assigned (May-September).

☀️ Keep your kids fueled and healthy this summer with SUN Bucks! Pennsylvania families can receive $120 per eligible child for nutritious groceries. Learn more and check if you're eligible at dhs.pa.gov/SUNBucks.

Applications can be submitted online, by mail, or completed at a local County Assistance Office. The deadline to apply for Summer 2026 SUN Bucks benefits is August 31, 2026.

SUN Bucks benefits for Summer 2026 are being issued from early June through the end of September. More information on SUN Bucks is available via the FAQ line at 1-877-762-1575 or by visiting dhs.pa.gov/SUNBucks.

United Way of Southwestern PA's Community Food Solutions Mini Grant applications are now open! Apply by Monday, June 29th, 2026.

Community Food Solutions is focused on increasing food access in our neighborhoods and communities throughout Allegheny County. Grants are funded up to $7,500 to small-scale, grassroots organizations and groups that are working on addressing food insecurity in the region.
