Just Harvest

Just Harvest https://linkin.bio/justharvest The United States is the world’s wealthiest nation. It has no shortage of food.

Just Harvest addresses the root causes of hunger in Allegheny County with a focus on economic justice through public policy, increasing food access, and building community power. Yet 1 in 7 of our neighbors here in Allegheny County, including 1 in 5 children, face food insecurity and hunger. Along with our partner organizations, Just Harvest addresses the root causes of hunger, in Allegheny County and beyond, by:

-- advocating to make government more responsive to the needs of the vulnerable through public policies that strengthen basic living standards, enhance child nutrition, and improve supports for working families, as well as through fair taxes and budgets;

-- helping people access critical social safety net programs to lift them out of poverty and put food on the table;

-- strengthening community-based solutions to healthy food access in underserved communities; and

-- empowering people in poverty to take political action and be part of government decision-making.

Food insecurity is rising in every community and with the largest SNAP cuts on record now in force, more neighbors are turning to us for help. No one organization can end hunger alone. That's why the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Just Harvest, The Food Trust, and 412 Food Rescue are standing together this Hunger Action Month.

This Hunger Action Month, and every month, ending hunger takes all of us. Join us: volunteer, donate, and speak up for the programs that keep our region fed. Head to the link in our bio to read the full statement and take action.

Allegheny County has proposed paid parental leave, and you still have the opportunity to voice your support!

Paid Parental Leave has the ability to improve the lives of working families, the health of mothers and infants, and help address racial and class health disparities in Allegheny County. According to research from the Ohio River Valley Institute, Allegheny County’s parental leave proposal could add up to 5,000 workers and $215M in wages to the local economy. As people are faced with the rising costs of living, this could eliminate one of the major financial strains for working families.

Head to the link in our bio to learn more and reach out to your County Council member to share your support for Paid Parental Leave in Allegheny County.

When SNAP participation declines, families lose access to food, communities lose federal dollars, and local economies suffer. Congress can take action to reverse the harm and strengthen SNAP.

We are collecting stories from SNAP recipients to share with legislators the importance of this program, and the impacts of cuts on everyday families working hard to keep food on the table. Are you interested in sharing your SNAP story? Fill out our form at justharvest.org/SNAP-story

Take action at the link in our bio to tell your members of Congress to invest in SNAP and reverse harmful cuts.
