On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, around 10:50PM Port Authority Police responded to the Wilkinsburg Park-and-Ride for a reported shots-fired incident. During the investigation, detectives identified Malakai Jackson as having displayed a firearm during the incident. While Jackson was not the one who discharged a weapon, further investigation revealed he was prohibited from possessing fi****ms due to prior convictions and numerous previous fi****ms-related charges. Most recently, Jackson pleaded guilty in December 2024 to a violation of Pennsylvania fi****ms laws.

Today, Port Authority Police detectives encountered Jackson in Wilkinsburg, who fled on foot. Detectives tracked him back to his residence in Wilkinsburg, where he barricaded himself inside for a period of time. With assistance from the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, Wilkinsburg Police Department, and Pennsylvania State Parole, a perimeter was established and preparations were made for a Special Response Team deployment. Jackson ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody without incident prior to SRT's arrival.

Jackson is charged with Persons Not to Possess Fi****ms, Fi****ms Not to Be Carried Without a License, and Evading Arrest By Foot. Jackson is currently housed at the Allegheny County Jail.

🚔📱 ENFORCEMENT BEGINS TODAY

Pennsylvania’s Paul Miller Law is now in effect.

Under this law, drivers may not hold or use a handheld mobile device while operating a vehicle. This includes texting, scrolling social media, checking notifications, dialing numbers, or otherwise handling your phone.

This law applies even when you are stopped at a red light, stop sign, in traffic, or any other temporary roadway delay. If you need to use your phone, you must safely pull your vehicle completely off the roadway and park in a safe location first.

Violators face a $50 fine, but with court costs and fees, the total can approach $200.

Our officers will be actively enforcing this law to improve roadway safety and reduce distracted driving crashes.
