Plum Borough Our mission is to provide exceptional public service to our residents, visitors and businesses. It was reorganized as a Borough in 1956.

We're Plum Borough and we've been a government office here in Pittsburgh, PA, since 1788. We believe in community engagement, offering farmers' markets and community events. We're the second-largest borough in the state, comprised of 29 square miles. We're looking forward to continuing to serve the residents of Plum Borough. Plum Borough covers 29 square miles of land area with a population of 27,126 according to the 2010 Census. Plum Borough was founded as Plum Township in 1788 and was one of Allegheny County's first seven townships. The historical development of Plum Borough was closely tied to the industries which developed here including coal mining, aluminum powder manufacturing and gas and oil production. Are you a Plum Borough High School student who is civic-minded and/or is considering a career in government or politics?

The Borough is looking for students interested in serving as Junior Council Members during the 2026-2027 school year. This is your backstage pass to local government.

Junior Council Members attend monthly Council meetings, learn how municipal government operates, and experience public service from the inside.
