Meet Lassen 🐾 As a specialized facility dog, Lassen provides comfort and emotional support to children and adults involved in Family Court, Mental Health Court and Veterans Court. His calming presence can help ease anxiety and reduce the stress that often comes with appearing in court.

He also gives back to the community outside the courthouse through visits to local hospitals and outreach events, helping build connections between the justice system and the people it serves. 💙

Our office stands with the men and women of the Warm Springs Police Department in Georgia and with the family, friends and colleagues of Sgt. Chris Fisher.

Sgt. Fisher was sitting in his cruiser Wednesday following a traffic stop when a vehicle unrelated to the stop pulled up beside him at which point the driver fired several shots into the cruiser killing Sgt. Fisher. The suspect in the shooting was later found in South Carolina and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators believe that the shooting was targeted because Sgt. Fisher had arrested the suspect last week after finding him with two baggies of suspected ma*****na and an assault style weapon. The suspect was able to post bond on the charges earlier this week.

Sgt. Fisher was 36 years old and had joined the department after serving as a deputy sheriff in three different Georgia counties.😢

Pittsburgh PA ---- Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced today that a Coraopolis man, on the run for the past five months, has been taken into custody.

28-year-old Khalil Faulkner has been a fugitive since March of this year when a bench warrant was issued for a probation violation concerning a 2022 guilty plea to burglary and robbery. Faulkner also has an active arrest warrant out of the City of Pittsburgh for gun and drug charges related to a March traffic stop on Saw Mill Run Boulevard.

Detectives from our office developed information that Faulkner was inside of a residence along East James Street in Homestead. Detectives arrived at the residence Monday morning and after announcing their presence, spoke to the mother of the woman dating Faulkner. She was unsure whether Faulkner was in the house but allowed detectives to search the property. Detectives then spoke with Faulkner’s girlfriend who confirmed that he was on the second floor.

Detectives then announced their presence to Faulkner who complied with commands to come downstairs at which time he was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Allegheny County Jail.

Pittsburgh PA ---- Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced today that a Greensburg man, on the run since June in connection with an attempted abduction in McKeesport, was arrested inside of a local hospital.

43-year-old David Cochran was charged by McKeesport Police with more than a dozen counts including aggravated assault, kidnapping and terroristic threats in connection with a June 10th incident along Sylvan Avenue. When police arrived on the scene, one female victim told police that Cochran became angry that she was in the house and proceeded to shatter a mirror across her face, cutting her above the eye. Victim one also said that Cochran punched her several times, breaking her nose and knocking out one of her teeth. Cochran then continued the assault by attempting to restrain her with electrical tape, pressing a knife against her rib cage and using an extension cord in an attempt to strangle her. A second female victim told police that she attempted to stop Cochran from assaulting the first victim, at which point Cochran threatened to kill both of them before forcing victim two into a bedroom and locking her inside. Cochran then fled the scene as police arrived.

Detectives from our office developed information earlier today that Cochran was at Allegheny General Hospital visiting a patient. When detectives arrived at the hospital they discovered that Cochran was a patient at the hospital under an alias, at which point Cochran was located and served with the warrant. Cochran was also served with three bench warrants from Allegheny County and an additional bench warrant from Westmoreland County.

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus reminds everyone that the National Weather Service and the Allegheny County Department of Human Services have issued a Heat Advisory beginning at 8am Wednesday, September 2nd and lasting through Wednesday night.

The high temperature is expected to be in the 90’s with the heat index exceeding 100 degrees.

We ask that you be vigilant when dealing with pets and children inside of vehicles, making sure not to leave them in a parked vehicle for any amount of time.

In less than 10 minutes, the temperature inside of a parked vehicle can rise 20 degrees higher than the outdoor temperature, quickly putting children and animals in grave danger.

We also ask that you take time to check on relatives and neighbors who may be especially vulnerable to the heat, including our senior population and those who may not have access to air conditioning.

If you need to be outside, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing, limit any strenuous activities to the early morning and evening, stay out of the direct sunlight and drink plenty of fluids.

Our office stands with the men and women of the Columbia, South Carolina Police Department and with the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Chris DeLong.

Officer DeLong and others responded earlier today to reports of a domestic disturbance involving a man violating a restraining order.. After arriving on scene, officer DeLong spoke with the woman and received a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. Less than an hour later, Officer DeLong told dispatch that he was investigating a suspicious person standing near the car that was described.

Less than 10 minutes later, another officer arrived on scene and reported that Officer DeLong had been shot. He was subsequently rushed to the hospital where he died during surgery. A second officer was also shot and is currently in the hospital.

Officer DeLong joined the Columbia force last year and is survived by his high school sweetheart wife and two children.😢

Today is National Dog Day, a perfect reason to highlight THEE BEST K9 unit in the Commonwealth !

Since 2004, this day has been set aside to raise awareness for dogs waiting to be rescued from shelters as well as to acknowledge the ways in which dog enrich our lives and the critical role filled by law enforcement, military and service dogs. 🦮🐕‍🦺

***** Update to today’s event *****

We processed 476 licenses today. Thanks to all who came out and we will see you next month in Ohio Township.

We are in the northeastern part of the county for today’s PA License to Carry event at the Allegheny Valley Volunteer Fire Company.

The event goes til 3 and we ask that you bring a completed application, valid ID and $20 cash to either get a new license or renew the one you have.

These events are part of the effort by Sheriff Kraus to bring government services to the community and make it more convenient for folks who can’t get downtown during regular business hours.

Big thanks to the fire company members for the use of their building !

Pittsburgh PA ---- Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced today that a woman who has been a fugitive for nearly three years has been taken into custody along with a second fugitive.

Detectives from our office went to an address on Jersey Street in McKeesport Thursday morning in an attempt to locate 45-year-old Leah Saluga. Saluga has been on the run since September 2023 when two bench warrants were issued for failure to appear for sentencing on a DUI case and for a court hearing on a separate drug possession case.

When detectives arrived at the residence, Saluga opened the door and was promptly taken into custody. A subsequent safety check of the residence led to the arrest of 22-year-old Terron Porterfield, wanted on a bench warrant issued last month for a probation violation on a 2025 guilty plea to a gun charge. Porterfield also has an active warrant out of West Mifflin for fleeing a police officer.

In the process of making the arrests, detectives saw indications of weapons and what appeared to be ma*****na. Detectives then applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence at which point they recovered two handguns including a .45-caliber G***k 21, along with just over a half pound of suspected ma*****na.

Saluga and Porterfield were transported to the Allegheny County Jail on the existing warrants and Porterfield is also facing new gun and drug charges based on the search.
