Point State Park

Point State Park This is the official page for Point State Park. Maintained and operated by Point State Park, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Point State Park, located at the confluence of three rivers, is at the tip of Pittsburgh’s “Golden Triangle.” It commemorates and preserves the strategic and historic heritage of the area during the French and Indian War (1754 - 1763). Once a busy industrial area, the area had deteriorated into a commercial slum by the 1940s. The development of a state park was authorized in 1945 and the first parcel of the 36-acre property was purchased in 1946. The park was completed and dedicated in 1974. It is now one of the nation’s outstanding historical parks and tourist attractions and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. UPDATE: August 24, 2026 - the Fountain at Point State Park is operational again. Thank you for your patience!

Beginning August 3, 2026, the Fountain at Point State Park will be temporarily out of operation to complete a thorough cleaning following an algal bloom.

This process is expected to take two weeks and will require the fountain to be drained and power washed. This maintenance is necessary to restore the fountain and support its continued operation. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.

We will update this post when the Fountain is operational again.

Today, DCNR staff from Point State Park complex, Allegheny Cleanways, and a literal boatload of volunteers went out to Allegheny Islands State Park for our annual litter pickup day. To recap, in 2025, volunteers and staff collected over 500 pounds of trash (and one tire). This year, our intrepid volunteers collected 1,194 pounds of trash, and three tires! Wow! From dragging trash barrels across the beach, digging out rusty burn barrels, finding a truck bed, and picking up countless cans, styrofoam, and old carpets and clothes, the proof shows that the three hours that were dedicated to clean our public lands made them better. We cannot thank each and every volunteer that came out today enough. Allegheny Cleanways, thank you as well for the transportation to the island and the disposal of the trash on the back end. We can't wait to do it again next year!
