Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

CMUPD joins communities across the nation in remembering the victims whose lives were lost and honoring the first responders, heroes, and K9 teams who answered the call with extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, their bravery, service, and memory continue to inspire us.

We will never forget.

As higher education security continues to evolve, CMUPD remains committed to sharing best practices across the safety landscape. Lisa Poltar-McCrimmon, Manager of Integrated Security Services (ISS) a division of CMUPD. Lisa will be speaking at the upcoming Security Industry Association (SIA) Vertical Insights: Higher Education Security Symposium today.

Drawing on her specialized credentials in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM), Lisa will discuss proactive threat mitigation and physical security strategies designed for academic environments.

CMUPD is sharing information about the Steel City Navy ROTC 9/11 Track Run being held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Gesling Stadium.

The event will run from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the goal of completing a collective 911 laps in remembrance of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Members of the CMU community are encouraged to volunteer, participate, and contribute laps throughout the day. Water will be provided.

Every lap is an opportunity to remember, honor, and never forget.

CMUPD is proud to celebrate the promotion of Officer Scott Brouwer to Sergeant!

For more than ten years, Sgt Brouwer has been a vital part of our agency, serving as Shift Coordinator, Motorcycle Unit Officer, and certified Police Mountain Bike Instructor, alongside many other responsibilities.

With his deep roots in our department and consistent leadership on the force, we are excited to see him excel in this next chapter!

CMUPD Officers recently trained with Northern Regional Special Response Team medics in NAEMT Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC).

TCCC is the military standard for lifesaving trauma care in high-threat environments, with training tiers ranging from All Service Members through advanced medical providers.

Thank you to the Northern Regional SRT medics for sharing their knowledge and helping our officers strengthen their lifesaving skills.

This week, CMU first-year students participated in Well-Being Day sessions within their housing communities. As part of Well-Being Day, students also attended a sampler of CMUPD’s Scotty Strong Self-Defense program. Students learned basic personal-safety strategies and practiced skills designed to build confidence, awareness, and preparedness.
