September is Deaf Awareness Month!

The PEAL Center is proud to highlight our partner, the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, and its commitment to creating accessible learning opportunities where Deaf and hard-of-hearing students can communicate, learn, grow, and thrive.

PEAL is grateful to have led Youth Leadership Academies this past year supporting WPSD students and teachers. We value this partnership and the way WPSD supports youth, families, and the Deaf community throughout Western Pennsylvania.

This week ends the first week of school for many of our Pennsylvanian families!

The new school year is a great time to check in on your student's IEP. Know what the accommodations are and make sure they're actually being applied. They should work for the student, caregivers, and teachers alike.

Don't be afraid to speak up early about what your student needs to learn and retain information this year.

Not sure if your child needs extra support? Public schools must locate, evaluate, and identify students who may need special education services. Start by writing to your school's principal to request an evaluation.

We're here to help make this school year go smoothly. Questions? Reach out anytime → pealcenter.org/need-to-talk
