☀️⛰️ Add exploring local greenspaces to your summer bucket list this year and kick the adventure off by stopping at your local library to check out a nature backpack.

The Nature Backpack Program began after a conversation with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy about the need to help families learn about nearby nature and connect with local greenspaces and natural assets. Since then, the program has grown to include more than 40 nature backpacks at county libraries created in partnership with the Allegheny County Parks, Allegheny County Parks and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.

Visit the online catalog to see the different themes and reserve a bag today: https://acl.bibliocommons.com/v2/search?query=nature%20backpack&searchType=smart

Early Literacy Tip: It's OK if your child only wants to read the same book over and over again. Repetition is good and will help your child's brain development. Try to interact with your child in different ways when reading the book if you are tired of it.

✨ Featured Library Program: Sensory Friendly Storytime with Western Allegheny Community Library ✨

📅Thursdays, June 4-August 6, 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Best for children requiring an inclusive storytime experience and their caregivers.

This inclusive storytime is designed for autistic and neurodivergent children, as well as those with other developmental differences. Our sensory-friendly experience includes a visual schedule, consistent songs and movement that change every month instead of every week, and interactive books for those who may be sensory-seeking instead of sensory-avoidant. This will be followed by open exploration activities that promote socialization and motor skills. Fidget toys, noise-cancelling headphones, and weighted lap blankets are provided if desired, but your own are just as welcome!

📲Please register child only for every storytime you plan to attend: https://ow.ly/t8Q450Z6P0x
