💧 HYDRANT FLUSHING NOTICE | WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 14

West View Water Authority crews will be conducting hydrant flushing this week in portions of Franklin Park, Marshall, Ross Township and Shaler Township.

Areas scheduled for flushing include:

• Franklin Park: Rochester Road, Brandt School Road, Countryside Lane, Glenwood Drive, Corporate Drive, Poor Richard Lane, Bond Street, Ben Franklin Drive, Almanack Court, Reis Run Road, Cloverhill Drive and Kingridge Road
• Marshall: VIP Drive and Devine Drive
• Ross Township: Blaze Drive, Albine Drive, Rene Drive and Lingay Drive
• Shaler Township: Sundale Drive, Laurel Drive and Angeline Drive

Customers in and around these areas may temporarily experience lower water pressure or discolored water while flushing is underway. If discoloration occurs, allow the cold water to run for several minutes until it becomes clear. Customers may also wish to avoid washing clothes—particularly white or light-colored items—during flushing.

Hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining water quality and ensuring that hydrants are operating properly for fire protection. We appreciate your patience while this essential system maintenance is completed.

At 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Twenty-five years later, at that same moment, we pause to remember everyone who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

We honor the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, dispatchers, military personnel and other first responders who answered the call at all three sites—running toward danger to help people they had never met.

Among those who responded were members of Pennsylvania Task Force 1, as well as southwestern Pennsylvania responders who would help form today’s Region 13 Emergency Management Task Force. Region 13 now encompasses communities throughout West View Water Authority’s service territory and continues that legacy of regional preparedness and cooperation.

We also recognize the responders who survived but continue to live with the physical and emotional effects of their service.

Their courage, sacrifice and commitment to others will never be forgotten.

West View Water Authority crews will be conducting hydrant flushing this week in the following areas:

Hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining a safe and reliable water system. It helps remove naturally occurring mineral deposits and sediment from water mains, improves water circulation and quality, and allows our crews to confirm that hydrants are operating properly and are ready for fire protection.

Customers near the flushing areas may temporarily experience discolored water or changes in water pressure. This is a normal result of the flushing process.

If discoloration occurs, avoid doing laundry and run cold water—preferably from the lowest-level faucet in your home—for several minutes until it runs clear.

Hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining our water distribution system. It helps remove naturally occurring sediment from water mains while also allowing our crews to exercise and inspect hydrants throughout the system.

Customers in and around flushing areas may temporarily experience lower water pressure or discoloration. If you notice discolored water, allow your cold water to run for several minutes until it clears before using it for drinking, cooking or laundry.

Flushing schedules may change based on weather, emergencies or other operational needs.

West View Water Authority (WVWA) was pleased to welcome Senator Devlin Robinson this week to visit and tour of our system operations. We had the opportunity to tour our Neville Island Water Treatment Plant.

These visits are an important part of WVWA’s ongoing efforts to work collaboratively with our elected officials to help showcase the critical work being performed every single day by our team. From maintaining and upgrading aging infrastructure to navigating operational and regulatory challenges, it is important that policymakers see firsthand what it takes to reliably deliver safe, high-quality drinking water to our communities.

Most importantly, the visit highlighted the tremendous responsibility of producing and delivering millions of gallons of water each day to the residents, businesses, and communities we proudly serve throughout the region.

We appreciate Senator Robinson taking the time to visit with our staff, learn more about our operations, and continue the conversation surrounding infrastructure investment, public utilities, and the future of water service in Western Pennsylvania.
