Diaspora Alert Supports LACC Probe into Alleged Bribery Scheme

(Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - Monday, October 21, 2024) Diaspora Alert (DA) welcomes the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission's (LACC) probe into the alleged bribery scheme aimed at ousting Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa. This investigation is a crucial step toward transparency and accountability in Liberia's governance.

The LACC's comprehensive probe will uncover the source of funding and identify recipients, addressing concerns of bribery among House of Representatives members. This move demonstrates the LACC's commitment to investigating corruption, regardless of political status.

The alleged bribery scheme involves 47 lawmakers who signed a resolution to remove Speaker Koffa, citing conflicts of interest and mismanagement. Admittedly, patriotic Liberians argue this plot aims to thwart Speaker Koffa's audit of the House, potentially exposing financial irregularities.

Diaspora Alert urges the LACC to expand its investigation to include Vice President Jeremiah Koung, Transport Minister Sirleaf Tyler and Mo Ali of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation regarding roles played in the bribery scheme as alleged by whistle-blowers.

In conclusion, DA pleads with the U.S. State Department to continue documenting corruption allegations against public servants for potential sanctions.

Diaspora Alert Condemns Mass Dismissals of Civil Servants for Exercising Constitutional Rights

(Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania August 15, 2024) Diaspora Alert (DA) strongly condemns the recent mass dismissals of Liberian civil servants for exercising their constitutional right to freedom of speech. This blatant violation of fundamental human rights undermines democracy and the rule of law.

The dismissals, a direct result of civil servants expressing opinions on corrupt public officials and participating in peaceful activities, infringe on their rights to freedom of expression, assembly and association (Articles 14, 15, and 17 of the 1986 Liberian Constitution).

This crackdown on dissenting voices threatens our democratic society, which the Unity Party-led government swore to preserve and protect. DA demands the immediate reinstatement of dismissed civil servants and calls on the UP government to ensure that no individual faces retribution for exercising their fundamental human rights.

The advocacy group is compiling a list of individuals who have been targeted for exercising their right to free speech, freedom of assembly and association under the Unity Party regime. The list will be submitted to the US State Department to document human rights violations.

DA stands in solidarity with the affected civil servants and urge all stakeholders to join in condemning this attack on democracy and human rights.

Diaspora Alert has engaged a team of highly skilled lawyers, led by former Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission Commissioner Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, to review Mr. Boakai's published assets. It is reported that Mr. Boakai lied under oath, and DA aims to verify this report. If the allegations are proven true, Diaspora Alert will petition the House of Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings against Mr. President.

Liberia Aid Halted: Diaspora Alert Commends South Korea's Stance

Diaspora Alert (DA), a prominent advocacy group, has commended the South Korean government for its decision to withhold aid from the Boakai-led regime in Liberia. This move comes in response to Diaspora Alert's call to the international community to suspend aid due to the Liberian government's lack of transparency, accountability, and good governance.

In a statement released yesterday, DA praised the Korea-Africa Summit for joining the U.S.-Africa Business Summit in heeding their call to withhold aid. The organization also acknowledged the tireless efforts of their lobbyists in blocking international support to the Boakai's regime, which they describe as a "criminal enterprise" plundering the country's resources.

Diaspora Alert lauded South Korea for its targeted aid approach, allocating billions to responsible African governments like Tanzania, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone, while denying funds to Liberia's government due to its questionable transparency and accountability record.

The organization urged the 55th National Legislature of Liberia to exercise oversight and prevent Liberian taxpayers' money from funding Mr. Boakai's fruitless travels.

This development marks a significant milestone in Diaspora Alert's campaign to promote transparency and accountability in Liberia.

Sierra Leone is striving to become "the Estonia of Africa" by fostering a thriving tech industry. To achieve this goal, the government has established a dedicated Ministry of Technology and Innovation and plans to build a state-of-the-art tech city. This hub will provide training for young people in various tech skills, aiming to export talent to the continent. By combining political will with strategic investment, Sierra Leone is poised to become a beacon for technological excellence in Africa.

Sadly, the Liberian government's strategic investment for moving the country forward is focused on setting up a committee to address the shortages and lower the price of dirty imported Indian rice, which is the leading cause of appendicitis in the country.
Liberians are stuck in a MESS!

Diaspora Alert commends the organizers of the 16th U.S.-Africa Business Summit, held on May 6-9, 2024, in Dallas, Texas, for heeding its call to withhold aid from the wasteful, incompetent, corrupt, and vicious Joe Boakai-led regime.

On May 6, 2024, Diaspora Alert urged the international community to withhold aid to the Liberian government due to its demonstrated lack of commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The U.S.-Africa Business Summit deserves praise for allocating millions to responsible governments like Sierra Leone and Malawi, amongst others. It is commendable that the Summit denied the corrupt Boakai regime the opportunity to steal. Joe Boakai and his gang of thieves have the capacity to squander U.S. taxpayers' money just as they are doing with Liberia's resources.

Diaspora Alert reiterates its call for the international community to withhold aid to Liberia until the regime takes concrete steps to address its structural failures, rampant corruption and egregious human rights violations.

Withhold Aid to Liberia ~
Diaspora Alert Urges International Community

(For Immediate Release - May 6, 2024)

Diaspora Alert (DA) urges the international community to withhold aid to Liberia on grounds that the government has demonstrated a lack of commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance. DA is troubled that the Unity Party-led government's highly publicized 100-day plan has ended in spectacular failure, shattering the hopes and aspirations of Liberians. Despite lofty promises, the administration has failed to deliver on all 12 objectives of its commitments, including: fighting corruption, road expansion, curbing drug abuse, improving sanitation, prudent economic and financial governance, and revitalizing tourism amongst others. Even the deliverables strategic goal of 'rebuilding public trust in public sector governance' has been compromised by the very individuals responsible for implementing the plan, leading to a growing distrust in government.

Diaspora Alert believes that continued aid without conditions, particularly to a government notorious for financial indiscipline and human rights abuses, will only serve to enrich senior government officials. Moreover, it will perpetuate a cycle of dependency and undermine Liberia's ability to achieve sustainable development, thereby exacerbating the very problems that aid aims to address.

In light of this, Diaspora Alert wants the international community to withhold aid until the government takes concrete steps to address its failures. A government that cannot keep its own promises will not honor foreign obligations or manage foreign aid effectively.

30 Days of Outrage: Diaspora Alert Demands Answers for Liberia's Slain Protesters

In commemoration of the one-month anniversary of the Kinjor massacre in Grand Cape Mount County, the Diaspora Alert (DA) declares a 30-day period of mourning in memory of the peaceful protesters who were killed on February 29, 2024. The citizens gathered peacefully to petition their government regarding bad labor practices at Bea Mountain Mining company when they were shot at point-blank range by state security.

DA stands in solidarity with the families and loved ones of the victims and demand justice and accountability for the tragic event. Each day, Diaspora Alert will highlight the importance of protecting human rights and the need for responsible governance. We are outraged that the government of Liberia has failed to release the investigative findings into the massacre of peaceful protesters, despite the Executive Mansion published statement on the day the massacre was perpetrated. "Earlier today, following a special Cabinet meeting, President Boakai expressed regrets and sadness over the situation in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County as he dispatched his sector Ministers to launch a full-scale investigation and report back to him in the soonest possible time". The Executive Mansion asserted.

Additionally, the Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory Colemon has established a Cold Case Unit at the LNP to investigate mysterious deaths that he believes the LNP under former IG Patrick Sudue mishandled. However, he has yet to address the recent protest in Kinjor, where citizens were massacred under his supervision.

DA views the government's inaction and lack of transparency are a betrayal of the trust of the Liberian people and a slap in the face to the memories of those who lost their lives. Diaspora demands the immediate release of the investigative findings and swift accountability for the perpetrators. Anything less is a clear indication of a cover-up and a lack of commitment to justice and human rights.

We call on the international community to continue pressuring the Liberian Government to take concrete steps towards accountability and justice. The people of Cape Mount deserve nothing less.

Signed,
Eric Pervist
