One of 13 ALS medic units serving Pittsburgh's 330,000 citizens and countless guests 24/7/365. Responds to approximately 5,000 of the City's 60,000 EMS calls per year.

After traveling over 220,000 miles, enduring innumerable garage visits, responding to countless emergencies, and transporting thousands of patients, old Medic 2 has retired to the backup fleet as we welcome a new truck! We’re excited for this next legacy, and are thankful for a new ambulance so we can keep serving Pittsburgh the way we always have!

We’re very proud of Medic 2’s own Crew Chief Brianna Kramer, who has a passion towards protecting and caring for newborn babies! She personally knit tiny hats that have been distributed among all pediatric kits city-wide, so that each newborn baby encountered by a Pittsburgh ambulance will receive one. Something as simple as a lovingly-knitted hat can protect a newborn against rapid body heat loss through their head. Thank you, Brianna, for your love towards Pittsburgh’s littlest ones!

Hello from Medic 2! It’s been a while since you’ve heard from us… we’ve had an extremely eventful year so far! From incessant truck switches to caring for sick patients on the regular, this year has been full of what Medic 2 does best.

Some of this years’ highlights at the Deuce include a few critical saves that were only possible due to excellent patient care. A young man in cardiac arrest was dramatically resuscitated and was able to return to his normal life shortly after. A woman in respiratory arrest whose condition was rapidly worsening was treated aggressively and later walked out of the hospital unscathed. A man having a severe stroke was swiftly treated and transported, and discharged from the hospital with no symptoms. Finally, a premature, critically ill newborn baby was delivered and successfully resuscitated, and is now recovering well. These are just a few examples of the expert care provided by our medics at the Deuce.

We’ve also hit a few significant milestones this year! The truck’s odometer reached 200,000 miles at the start of the year, more miles than any frontline or spare truck in our entire fleet. The collective number of successful intubations performed by our crews this year so far is a whopping 21! And lastly, the majority of our medics have become members of an elite, specially trained team called the master clinicians who are focused on pioneering advanced patient care.

Medic 2 and the rest of Pittsburgh EMS continually provide the best care anywhere. Thank you for sticking with us and reading our update! We’ll try not to let as much time pass before the next one!

Great work yesterday by all the hands of Medic 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, Rescue 1 & 2, Ambulance 45, 46, & 48, UPMC response physicians, and command staff! After an overburdened porch roof collapsed onto a crowd of people, these crews masterfully triaged dozens of patients, treated wounds on scene, and conducted transport to several different area hospitals. Between all the Pittsburgh transport units as well as a medic unit from Eastern Area, 17 total people were taken to the hospital. Thankfully, most injuries were minor-to-moderate, and none appeared to be imminently life-threatening.
