Pitt's University Library System is the 22nd-largest academic research library in all of North America and the 16th-largest among the prestigious public libraries of the Association of American Universities. The ULS is made up of libraries located on the Pittsburgh campus, a Library Resource Facility in the city’s Point Breeze neighborhood housing the Archives Service Center and Digital Research Library, and the libraries of the Greensburg, Johnstown, Titusville, and Bradford campuses.

Thanks for joining our open house festivities in Hillman Library this week! We had a great turnout for the artist talk by Susy Bielak and Fred Schmalz, with Aaron Henderson, who drew inspiration for their art installation, "I am made to leave I am made to return," from the Pitt Nationality Rooms archives held by the library.

The installation has four interconnected artworks that unfold across Hillman Library's atrium, staircase, and entry areas. Together, they invite us to consider how cultural memory is carried forward and continually remade.

- Speculative Nationality Room (painting on bulkhead)
- When I Left (texts on staircase)
- Holdings (sculpture under staircase and blueprint column wraps)

Did you know the library holds one of the earliest archives of modern Black gospel music, published in Pittsburgh? The original printing plates in the Charles & Frankie Pace Collection are what remains of the husband-and-wife team who ran one of the most successful independent Black gospel music publishing businesses nationwide. A $190,000 NEH grant will support the library's efforts to establish a complete edition of Charles Pace's over 200 songs. By producing new polymer plates that create crisp, clear prints of Pace's music as he designed it on the page, we can bring his music and family legacy back to life.
