Partner News: Longtime ACBA Executive Director David A. Blaner is retiring on June 30, concluding a long and historic career. The impact he has made on the Pittsburgh Legal Community – from individual members to entire firms – is undeniable. As a way to bid farewell to Dave, the ACBA will be publishing a commemorative edition of the Lawyers Journal newspaper on July 10. This edition will be filled with content on his impact, memories, and coverage of the 2026 Bench-Bar Conference, which doubles as his going away party.

Our Access to Justice Committee will present a one-credit CLE intended for all attorneys at the Bench-Bar Conference: “Intersections of Law as Experienced by Unrepresented Litigants with Low Incomes.” It will be held on Friday, June 19 at 3:45 p.m.

This interactive program will navigate a legal problem from the perspective of an unrepresented litigant while it alerts practitioners to intersections between criminal, family, housing, and immigration law. The program will highlight ethical and professional responsibilities for attorneys and judges operating at these intersections, including identifying collateral consequences, addressing barriers faced by self-represented litigants, and applying trauma-informed practices.

Getting to a mediation is only half the battle. Our Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee will present a one-credit CLE at the Bench-Bar Conference: “Mediation - Upping Your Odds of Settling.” It will be held on Friday, June 19 at 11:45 a.m. During this program, learn how to get your case ready for one, understand the best methods to meaningfully engage in the process, and strategies for working with your mediator to maintain ongoing negotiations.

In a game show reality contestant format, the program will provide tips and best practices when preparing, attending, and settling your case, pre or post litigation, with a mediation. The program will be a question-and-answer format with audience input and presentation.

If you plan to attend the ACBA Bench-Bar Conference but haven’t registered, now is the time to do so. The Standard Registration price of $665 ends today. Beginning Saturday, the Late Registration price of $695 will be in effect. Bench-Bar will be held June 18-20 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.
