Registration is open for our 2026 Black Mental Health Summit taking place on Wednesday, June 24 at Commonwealth Charter Academy at The Waterfront in Pittsburgh. This year's summit, From Disconnect to Dialogue: Restoring Connection in Our Community, will focus on bridging the growing gap between youth and adults by creating space for honest conversation, understanding, and connection.

During the keynote presentation, Kyaien Conner, PhD, Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, introduces the Science of Sankofa, a framework that centers the power of cultural memory, identity, and community-based practices in promoting mental health among Black communities. Through storytelling, practical examples, and a live West African drumming experience, participants will engage with culturally grounded strategies that foster connection, intergenerational dialogue, and collective healing.

Mental Health Action Day 2026 reminds us that awareness is important, but action changes lives. 💚

Today, we encourage everyone to take one meaningful step for mental health: check in on a friend, practice self-care, share resources, seek support, or speak openly about mental wellness. Small actions can create powerful change.

Together, we can build stronger communities where every person feels seen, supported, and valued.

That’s a wrap on our 2026 Mental Health and Wellness Conference! NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania’s Director of Advocacy and Public Policy, Nikki Weigand, highlighted important state and federal issues in the annual Public Policy Priorities presentation. Keirston Parham (KP), Recovery and Peer Services Coordinator at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, inspired us with his mental health journey that led him from crisis to leadership within the recovery movement. What a great turnout with a record number of attendees! Thank you to all sponsors, presenters, attendees, and exhibitors for making this a great conference!
