HABITAT MYTH vs. FACT: Does Habitat give away houses for free? 🤔

It’s one of the most common misconceptions about Habitat for Humanity—but Habitat homes are not free. At Habitat Pittsburgh, we believe in offering a hand-up, not a handout. Partner families purchase their Habitat home with an affordable 30-year, 0% interest mortgage and put significant work into preparing for successful homeownership.

Before purchasing their home, program families complete 350 hours of sweat equity, contributing their own time and effort alongside Habitat volunteers and staff. They also participate in financial literacy education, helping build the knowledge and resources needed to manage their finances and succeed as homeowners for years to come.

Habitat Pittsburgh is so excited to begin a new development in the Homewood area, with the construction of three new Habitat Homes! This development will help transform a long-vacant lot into affordable housing for three local families.
