Today, our team celebrated Mary Russo who, after 20 years of dedicated service to the City of Pittsburgh, begins her transition into a well-earned retirement

Over the course of two decades, Mary has served as both a Department Administrator and Zoning Specialist, taking on countless responsibilities that have helped shape the Department from behind the scenes.

In addition to her daily tasks handling external requests, overseeing public notices for Zoning Board of Adjustments, and serving as the recording secretary for the Planning Commission, Mary has helped guide the Department through difficult transitions while playing a critical role in onboarding and training multiple generations of City Planning leadership.

September 3rd will now be known as "Mary Russo Day" as set forth in a proclamation signed by Mayor O'Connor

Thank you, Mary, for your years of service! We'll miss you!

Join us as we connect with the Earth and each other during a public art workshop with Naomi Chambers and Alecia Dawn Young where you'll get the chance to plant in the garden and make ceramic tiles to add to an onsite public sculpture. Make your tile even more personal by bringing a small item from home to press into your tile.

About the public art piece:

"Home" is an idea of softness and honors the memory, work, and communal care of Black life and culture in the Hill District.

Referencing brick, the building material that housed so many of the Hill District’s residents, this freestanding sculptural piece celebrates evolving notions of refuge, retreat, and the feeling of home and connectedness. Curved to mimic the embrace of a mother’s hug, "Home" embraces change and the invitation to a growing sense of belonging.

This project is a City of Pittsburgh Percent for Art Program in collaboration with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.
