Veena and I were honored to visit Temple Ohav Shalom in the Town of McCandless during Rosh Hashanah. In the face of rising Anti-Semitism and attacks on followers of other minority faiths, I spoke of the importance of living up to the ideals of our founding, especially freedom of religious expression, and recognizing the key role faith can play in the actions we take in the public square. Thank you for the kind invitation during the high holiday and the privilege of representing the vibrant Jewish community of the North Hills.

I was honored to represent our community as the Pennsylvania House commemorated the 250th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Constitution and our nation. This moment is both a chance to remember the ideals of the founding of our Commonwealth and nation as well as the need to continue to work to advance the Blessings of Liberty for ourselves and our posterity.

Yesterday was a great day to spend in beautiful Ohio Township Community Park to help residents shred their sensitive documents and provide information on how to prevent identity theft. Many thanks to my staff, the Ohio Township Parks and Recreation staff, and my new intern and her sorority sisters for making this such a successful event!

My deepest condolences and prayers are with the family of the woman from Jefferson County who died from complications of measles. Tragically, the measles outbreak continues to rapidly spread in our Commonwealth. As a husband, father, physician, and legislator, I would again urge everyone eligible who has not yet received the MMR vaccine to do so. We can safely and effectively protect ourselves, our families, and our communities from this previously largely eliminated disease.

The Jefferson County coroner has confirmed the county's first measles-related death.

Veena and I had a wonderful time at the Pittsburgh Indian Community & Friends - PICAF 5K today in Allegheny County Parks North Park in Town of McCandless. This year, the event again supported the Homeless Children's Education Fund. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for a great 5K and for raising over $900,000 for charities in our region over 13 years.

Recently, I testified before Allegheny County Council on the proposed paid parental leave policy. I stated that I support enacting paid parental leave in Allegheny County and our state, that the medical evidence is clear supporting paid parental leave, and that we have to get the economic, social, and political details correct to minimize the inevitable unintended consequences of such a significant change.
