Weโ€™re thrilled to welcome Mr. Michael LaBella as he joins the Marzolf Music Room! ๐ŸŽถ A Shaler Area and Slippery Rock graduate, with a passion for creativity and a love for student engagement, Mr. LaBella has already made a fantastic impression on our students. Today, he led an interactive activity with our 3rd graders using a parachute and a tennis ballโ€”sounds fun, right?๐ŸŽ‰

Students worked together to move the tennis ball around the parachute without letting it fall, their actions perfectly matching the graceful movements of The Swan by Camille Saint-Saรซns, played by cellist Yo-Yo Ma. ๐ŸŽป

Check out these photos and videos below to see our students in action, feeling the music, working as a team, and enjoying every moment with Mr. LaBella! Letโ€™s give him a warm Marzolf welcome! ๐Ÿ‘

Auditions for the PMEA Honors Orchestra took place at Fox Chapel High School in September and SAHS student Hailey Sanders earned a spot among the top 5 violas. This is an impressive accomplishment in a highly competitive field. The PMEA Honors Orchestra Festival will be held at Upper St. Clair High School on November 15th and 16th, bringing together exceptional musicians from across PMEA District 1, which includes over 550 school and private music teachers from Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland counties. This is a prestigious honor, and we are incredibly proud of Hailey's hard work and talent! Congratulations to Hailey for her outstanding achievement!

There's no better feeling as a music teacher than seeing a former student so excited about their new instrument that they can't wait to show it offโ€”even in the car line! ๐ŸŽถ I am one lucky teacher. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต Our first grade musicians were hard at work on their Bug Compositions this week! ๐Ÿž๐Ÿœ As we prepare to dive into quarter notes and eighth notes, students have been creating their own bug-themed rhythms. Once their compositions were complete, they had the opportunity to perform them on a variety of instruments for their classmates! ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿช‡

Check out 3C's hardwork and focus as we reviewed sol, la, and mi using the song "Plainsies, Clapsies" and performed the accompanying beanbag movements. ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถ

Stretchy band smiles are the best smiles.๐Ÿ˜ Lots of fun in the music room today, as kindergarten students practiced keeping the beat by using a stretchy band. In and out, up and down, side to side, this fun activity also promotes teamwork, cooperation, and following directions!๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถ

Our 2nd graders are having a blast working together to perform, "Sasha," a movement activity rooted in Russian folk traditions. This activity enhances their musical skills, like understand beat and form, and also helps them practice things like sequencing, partner work, and the pure joy of moving to music. It is an honor to watch these students learn and grow! ๐ŸŽถ

I loved meeting our new students and seeing all of our Shining Stars this week.๐ŸŽตThe kindergarten students had the opportunity to play egg shakers as we practiced rest position and playing position, playing and moving to the steady beat, and using our singing voices. Students in 1st - 3rd grades participated in a rhythmic get to know you activity and a movement game with partners at each grade level.
