Last week was our May monthly meeting, and we were excited to have Pam Turner, Program Director at HEARTH, join us ❤

HEARTH is a non-profit located in Shaler Township that provides housing and resources for mothers and children who are facing domestic violence and homelessness. Most cases they see are in Allegheny County.

At any one time they can house 26 families in the 2 and 3 BR apartments on their property. All apartments come fully furnished even down to kitchen supplies, sheets, towels, shower curtains, etc. When families exit the program they are encouraged to take the housewares to get them started in their own housing.

In addition to housing, HEARTH provides employment resources, subsidized childcare, a food pantry, classes on finance/budgeting, and life skills workshops. Families can live at HEARTH for two years, preparing to move out on their own, before the program ends.

We were proud to send Pam home with a huge pile of donations for their families. If you missed the meeting and still want to donate, please remember that HEARTH has wishlists online- https://www.amazon.com/wedding/guest-view/2XURQ6D5VLRE4

If you'd prefer to donate your time, HEARTH would be thrilled to have your help! https://hearthpgh.org/volunteer/

That's how it's done! 👏

"Catena’s removal from council’s leadership may not, by itself, be a signal of coming changes to the body’s work, but it is an indication of how council has already changed. A growing progressive bloc, verging on a majority, is composed mostly of people elected in the last two cycles. Long-serving members who have left council in recent years have been replaced by younger, more left-leaning members."

Days after Pat Catena resigned from the council presidency following a controversial campaign mailer, members picked Michelle Naccarati-Chapkis to succeed him.

Tomorrow is Election Day!

Ross and West View folks: most of you will have one of the easiest primary ballots you've ever had, with no candidates on your ballot having challengers.

Here are our picks for those races:

Ross Ward 5 District 3: Josh Hischar & Deanna Philpott

And if you are in these Ross districts, you have the opportunity to write in some candidates!

Ross Ward 2 District 2: Write in Erin Smith
Ross Ward 5 District 4: Write in Eric Phillips

Show our members/supporters some love by voting for them! ❤️
