East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM)

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) EECM is an interfaith human services organization serving the East End of Pittsburgh.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) was founded in 1970 as a collective response to changes in the community, born when the leaders of 18 local faith communities recognized that the troubles of the community were too great for any one of them to address alone. Starting with interracial breakfasts for Peabody High School students, EECM’s services have expanded as the needs of the community have dictated. For many of the individuals it serves, EECM provides the necessities of life: a hot meal, a safe, place to sleep, food for the family. For others, it is a place to regain strength after a hospital stay, a support system to work toward recovery, or one-on-one help to change life for the better. For young people, EECM is educational programs, drug and alcohol prevention programs, violence prevention programs, Summer Day Camp, and a concerted effort to show our children a better future. Our three programs include Children & Youth Services, Community Nutrition Services, and IMPACTS (Individuals Making Progress and Change through Self-Sufficiency).

It’s that time of year again! We’re calling on our friends to donate a new or gently used coat (dry-cleaned) to our Share the Warmth Coat Drive.

Drop off used winter coats at Strong Cleaners or Magic Dry Cleaners between September 8 and October 9 to have them cleaned for free. Once cleaned, the coats will be delivered directly to EECM!

Bring your donation in plastic bags and let the clerk know that they are for the EECM Coat Drive. Bring in your own dry cleaning or laundry at the same time and receive 50% off when you pre-pay! (no leather, suede, fur, or alterations)

You can also drop off gently used and new coats (must have tags!) at East End Ministry, 6140 Station Street, Entrance until October 9th. Questions? Email [email protected].

September is National Recovery Month. 💜

Recovery is a journey, and no one should have to walk it alone. At EECM, we’re committed to standing beside individuals and families facing addiction, hardship, and barriers to stability and connecting them to the support and resources they need to build a brighter, more sustainable future.

Throughout the month, we’ll be joining our community in recognizing and celebrating the many roads to recovery and the people who travel them.

Join us at the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk on September 12! Come celebrate recovery and connect with others at this free community event featuring music, kids’ activities, speakers, food trucks, a resource fair, recovery awards, and more.

📅 September 12, 2026

🕘 9 AM - 1 PM

📍1201 Waterfront Place, Downtown Pittsburgh

Stay tuned throughout September for more ways to get involved with EECM and support Recovery Month.

Donald came to EECM after a successful completion of inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Donald was involved in the criminal justice system and when he came to us, he was determined to not continue the revolving cycle of jails and institutions.

Donald became employed within his first month of being in the recovery house. He worked diligently on saving his money, attending dual diagnosis therapy to assist him with maintaining his mental wellness, developing relapse prevention strategies, and building a foundation for long term recovery.

Donald was able to move into safe, affordable housing within three months. He is now a driver for the same treatment center he graduated from. He is able to help men and women get into treatment safely and will often speak about the opportunities and resources available at EECM that helped him build his recovery and try to help others recover as well in a safe, supportive community.

Your support helps make success stories like Donald's possible. Will you help us create even more?

While living at EECM’s Recovery House, Anthony has found stability, support, and a community that has helped him build a stronger foundation for his future. Today, he is working, has his driver’s license, a fully insured vehicle, and a bank account. He’s staying clean, attending meetings, and working toward his next goal of getting his own apartment.

Along the way, Anthony has learned that asking for help and accepting guidance can be an important part of growth. As he continues to build a more stable life, he’s also using what he has learned to encourage and support others around him.

Anthony’s story is still being written. Each milestone brings him closer to the independent future he’s working toward.

Your support helps make stories like Anthony’s possible. Help us create more opportunities for success this summer.

At EECM, we see every day what can happen when a neighbor has access to food, support, resources, and a community that believes in their potential.

This week, we’re highlighting real voices and real stories from our neighbors who found support at EECM and are now on a journey toward new opportunities, fresh starts, and futures filled with possibility.

Help create more success stories. Your support helps individuals and families access the tools, guidance, and opportunities they need to build stable, successful futures.

Two weeks left.

Our Summer of Success Campaign continues through August 31, and there’s still time to help us reach our $30,000 goal.

Next week, we’ll be sharing a series of success stories from people whose lives have been shaped by the opportunities, support, and resources made possible through EECM. These stories are a reminder that your donation is more than a contribution; it can help someone take the next step toward stability, independence, and a successful future.

Follow along next week to hear their stories and see the impact your support can make.

Help us create more success stories. Give today at eecm.org/give.

“I am working towards my dream of graduating from college and being able to support my family.”

“I am working towards my dream of becoming a real estate agent because I want to help people find dream homes.”

“I am working towards my dream of being an orthodontist because fixing teeth is interesting.”

Behind every goal is a person with a story, a vision for their future, and the determination to get there.

Through EECM’s Summer of Success campaign, your support helps provide the resources, encouragement, and opportunities people need to keep moving forward.

Help us invest in their dreams. Help us make success possible.
