The American flag displayed throughout our firehouse and on our fire gear is more than just a symbol. It serves as a constant reminder of the freedoms we enjoy because of the brave men and women who have served our country. Especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice to something greater than themselves.

This Memorial Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember and honor those heroes who gave their lives so that we may continue to live free. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

As we’re in the midst of EMS Week, we would like to recognize our crews who make it all happen each and every day.

Many people may not realize that all of our personnel are certified at a minimum as EMT's, with a large portion also licensed as Paramedics. While many associate the fire service primarily with firefighting, our crews take great pride in being well rounded professionals who are prepared to handle a wide variety of emergencies.

Every time our crews go out the door, they are responding to someone’s worst day and strive to make it better through professional, high quality patient care. Whether it is solving a problem, providing lifesaving treatment, or simply being someone people can depend on in a difficult moment, our personnel are always willing and ready to help.

Please join us in thanking the individuals who work tirelessly each day to make our community a safe place! 🚑 🇺🇸

Over the weekend, firefighters from across the state successfully completed the Live Fire Instructor Course. These firefighters entered the program as certified instructors seeking to further expand their knowledge to safely and effectively conduct live fire training.

Departments represented included Pittsboro (6), Plainfield Fire Territory, Greenfield Fire Territory, Honey Creek Fire Department, Danville Fire Department, Brownsburg Fire Territory, Westfield Fire Department, Zionsville Fire Department, Fire Department of Liberty Township, Hendricks County Indiana, Greencastle Fire Department, Pike Township Fire Department, and New Albany Fire Department. The three day course ended with a total of 31 live fire evolutions.

On the final day, Live Fire Instructor candidates applied the skills and knowledge they developed by leading a State “Light and Fight” event, which brought together 20 additional firefighters from across the state.

The Pittsboro Fire Department is proud to have served as the host site for this training. Supporting the continued growth and improvement of the fire service remains a priority of our department.

We’re proud to be hosting this District 5 Live Fire Instructor course.

Over the past two weeks, firefighters have been in the classroom preparing for live fire evolutions taking place later this month. We have 6 of our own firefighters attending the course to further their knowledge in live fire instruction.

The class follows NFPA 1403 standards, which ensure live fire training is conducted safely and realistically. It prepares instructors to properly plan, supervise, and manage live fire training with a strong focus on safety, accountability, and fire behavior.

Opportunities like these help our firefighters better serve our community!

Celebrating 75 years of Service

75 years ago, in 1951, we became an organized Fire Department. Prior to this, every able bodied male citizen of Pittsboro, 21 years or older, were automatically considered to be a member of the unorganized department.

Towards the end of 1950, Middle Township Trustee Hildon Ayers and his advisory board decided to add township fire protection. The first township owned fire truck was a 1950 John Bean Chevorlet high pressure fog truck. This truck was manufactured in Lansing, Michigan. The Fire Chief/Town Marshall Lawrence Marker along with Marion Parker traveled by train in December of 1950 to drive the new truck home.

The first call answered for our organized Fire Department was in April of 1951. The first fire call recorded occurred at Frank Lovell's Barber Shop on April 21st, 1951 when a fire caused damage to the roof. The location of this call was at the Hayworth building on the southeast corner of Main/Maple St. Then in 1965, our department trained many personnel in Red Cross First Aid Techniques and were able to respond on all first aid and oxygen calls.

Take a moment to enjoy a few photos from our past as we reflect on 75 years of service to our community. We are proud of the history we’ve built together and the generations who have contributed to it. If you have memories, stories, or photos you’d like to share, we welcome you to join us in celebrating this milestone!

At approximately 08:10AM this morning, we received reports of a severe weather event in the area of 800 North/100 East.

Crews arrived to find damage to structures, power lines, with debris scattered. At this time we have multiple units surveying the area to determine the extent of the damage.

At this time there are no reported civilian or firefighter injuries. We ask that the area be avoided. As soon as we confirm more information updates will be provided.
