Stephen E. “Steve” Woehrle, devoted his life to public service and the protection of others. He joined the Elmsford Fire Department at the age of 18 and became a Life Member. He proudly served as a police officer with the Village of Elmsford Police Department from April 1, 1985, until his retirement on June 27, 2009. During his distinguished law enforcement career, he was promoted to Sergeant and also served as Acting Police Chief. His dedication to the fire service led him to serve as Fire Chief of the Elmsford Fire Department, where he earned the respect and admiration of those who served alongside him.
After retiring and moving to Piseco in 2019, Steve once again answered the call to serve. Despite facing numerous ongoing health issues resulting from his response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, he joined the Piseco Volunteer Fire Department. His unwavering commitment and leadership led to his appointment as Volunteer Fire Chief in 2024, a role he proudly held until his passing.
Throughout his distinguished career in law enforcement and the fire service, Chief Woehrle exemplified leadership, integrity, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. His impact reached countless lives, and his legacy of service will long be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 31, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Northville Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain Community Methodist Church on Route 8 in Speculator, New York, with burial at Higgins Bay Cemetery to follow immediately after the service.
