Last night, the New Market Fire Department and Arbor Hose Company held our first of many 1/3 box trainings to increase the effectiveness of our responses to emergencies in our town.

The training focused on building a solid understanding of how each of our departments operates and how we can come together to further increase cohesiveness during stressful emergency situations. Topics such as radio etiquette, accountability, scene staging, the box alarm plan, and Mayday protocols were discussed among the group.

The goal is simple: to provide the best service possible to our community. We’re putting in the work to make sure that happens.

Last night at approximately 7:08pm, the New Market Fire Department was requested by the Middlesex County Mutual Aid coordinators to assist at a large brush fire in South Brunswick Township. Members were part of a large diameter hose (LDH) task force and assisted in bringing a large volume of water from a nearby source to the scene of the brush fire at Reliable Wood Products. This LDH task force is a valuable resource used by the county in order to greatly increase the amount of water supplied to a fire scene when required. The crew was released at approximately 2am today.

This morning at approximately 02:30, the New Market Fire Department was dispatched on a 1/3 box assignment to a structure fire on 8th Street.

Upon arrival, Chief 40 and Chief 60 observed heavy fire conditions in the rear of the structure, and upgraded the assignment to a 1st alarm. Meanwhile, crews from Truck 66, Engine 41, and Engine 63 established a permanent water supply, and set up primary and backup lines to extinguish the fire.

Subsequently the fire was upgraded to a 2nd alarm assignment to assist in manpower. After the fire was extinguished crews overhauled the structure and verified there were no more hot spots. Primary and secondary searches were performed to verify there were no occupants in the structure. Upon one of the searches, a firefighter rescued a kitten that was safely reunited with its owner.

Thank you to all units on scene operating, and thank you to all mutual aid companies that handled all cover assignments.

Tonight, three members from New Market along with two members from Arbor Hose Company #1, Inc. - The Pride of the North Side will be embarking on 7 month journey through the Middlesex County Fire Academy 📚 to learn what it takes to be a firefighter. They will be leaning topics like 🏗️ building construction, 🔥fire behavior, 🧯 search and rescue, and everything else they need to know to do the job safely and effectively. We wish them the best of luck and can't wait to support them on their journey.

Kittens don't only get stuck in trees!🌲

Last night, the New Market Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of South Washington Ave and Stelton Road for a report of an animal stuck in the storm drain. When we arrived, firefighters could hear meows echoing through the drains. The drain covers were removed, and with some sweet talking and patience, a small kitten 🐱 walked into the hands of a firefighter waiting on the side of the pipe. The kitten was safely turned over to Piscataway Township Police Department to coordinate the safe relocation and proper care. No rescue is too big or too small for the New Market Fire Department!

Last night at 7:57 PM, the members of New Market Fire Department were dispatched to Chelsea Drive for a reported dumpster fire with extension to a nearby structure.

Upon arrival, first-due units confirmed that the fire had extended into an attached two-car garage. Due to the rapidly growing fire conditions, a 1-3 Box Alarm was transmitted, bringing additional resources from Arbor Hose Fire Company to the scene.

Chief 60, Battalion 60, Engine 62, Engine 63, and Truck 66 responded. Units on scene quickly deployed multiple handlines and a master stream to bring the heavy fire under control.

We would like to thank to Arbor Hose Fire Company for their assistance and teamwork during this incident.

This morning Deputy 60, Battalion 60 and Engine 64 had the opportunity to provide landing zone coverage for Hackensack Meridian Health Air Med 2 while they made a stop to visit Piscataway Police Youth Week. The crew provided lots of knowledge and gave everyone a tour of the helicopter.

The fun starts at 6 p.m. at Piscataway’s Independence Day Fireworks Show this Saturday at Kenny Armwood Stadium at Piscataway High School with food trucks, a DJ and other activities with the fireworks at 9 p.m.
