So last fall I wrote a post about our "amazing landscaper" and I was so excited to see the yard ripped up. The hills were being re-formed and tons of topsoil was to be brought in and grass seed planted. Was beyond excited to mow grass and not weeds. My joy was short lived. The "amazing landscaper" disappeared. Fixed the front hill, brought in dirt- not the clean topsoil we paid for and not sure if grass was thrown. Makes me sad, frustrated and sick. Its worse than before. I won't name this person publicly, but I will say he better never show up here again. The wasted time and cost is enough for me to throw hands!.
So if you were wondering why the yard was torn up just to have it look worse, that is why. Out of the 4 times we've hired someone for a project, only one did the job we paid for right. This is why things move so slowly- we will have to , once again, re-group and do it ourselves.
So not to be a downer but we are your cautionary tale- get and check references and call those references- even if its a neighbor or friend who "knows them".

*****FOUND***
OK, so I've been out walking the
streets screaming "Bruno".....I spent an HOUR looking through every inch of this house..
Well, being the cat that he is, he was under a bed in the spare room. My husband had closed him in there-- BUT-- we had all looked and called for him in that room☹ Did he say a peep?? Nope. My daughter just walked by that room and heard a meow. SINCE 8am I have been hollering for him😠😩 Whatever- hes here🙄

Our cat got out- somehow- early this a.m. if you see him, please let us know. He is front declawed- fixed- and a part of the family. His name is Bruno. Lost around North Downing St and Boone Street.

So its that spooky time of year again- when many people ask: "Is your house haunted?" And my answer is either yes, no or "I can't say- they might be listening"😀!
I absolutely LOVE Halloween!! I updated this pages wallpaper photo - I sent a memo to my spectral friends about a family photo- and as you see, a few did show up😃🧡🖤🧡🖤

Time to look into where the batteries are coming from, how much and who is making bank off this, who thought this was okay and why the EPA hadnt stepped in and stopped this!

Excited!! Today our amazing landscaper has come to finally tear up the yard! No more weeds!!!!
The plan changed several times over the summer with tons of ideas of what to do. We finally settled on reshaping the hills to their original shape and size. The top of the hills will become the flower bed of my dreams which hopefully will match the glorious idea in my head in the spring! The next step is to see if there is a brick driveway under that pavement. If there is, I'd like to restore it. If not, we will fill and reseal what is there. A half wall will go up on the hillside that is abutting the driveway and curbing will be poured along its sides as well. Curbing to also be poured by the street on Boone.( I still think that should be the city's job ) That area has been a thorn in my side for too long. Then tearing up the grass on the parking strip to level it out- hoping to plant different perennials there-- at least on the Downing St set. And lastly, trying to figure out what to do on the corner of Boone and Downing because for some reason people drive up to 3ft into the grass to turn!🤔🙄🤣 I suggested re-pouring the curb and attaching metal spikes🤣🤣🤣 That idea was shot down. Maybe a huge boulder??? Who knows! Trying to get the city to move the street/stop sign to that side but they won't because even they know people will hit it!!😃😃😃 Progress being made- one dirt load at a time!

*** UPDATE**** Just got off the phone with preservation dayton-- the city is demolishing...and the awning is probably not salvageable...this is such a shame....such a waste. Years of PD trying to make something happen and...rubble. I dont understand so much of it--- but sometimes there just is not a reason why things happen. Good on you PD for trying so hard and long- and shame on those that decided selfish destruction was the route to go.

Someone really has it in for this place!!! At this point I dont see how it can be salvaged or who would invest the 7 figured price tag to fix it!! We are hoping that Preservation Dayton, Inc and/or the County contacts us to let us save the awning. It would be a shame not to preserve at least that -hanging on the Traxlers sister house!

The previously burnt Traxler Mansion in Dayton catches fire again.

So our equipment for the soffit, etc has been delayed so in the meantime we have been working on smaller- dare I say- irritating jobs. The porch railing has been a thorn in my side! Most of it is still in good shape but holy cow! Where it had been "repaired" before....ugh...the damage caused by using the wrong materials is disheartening.!! These photos are of chunks missing and future damage to come. You can see at the base of each spindle that cement was used. Though limestone is strong, using cement for repairs causes horrible damage. Cement doesn't flex with temps. The removal of it is tedious and nerve wracking as limestone is softer than cement and removing the cement- if not done very carefully will cause more damage or complete destruction!
