There is a lot happening at UVCC this summer!
While students and staff are enjoying a well-deserved break, our Maintenance team is hard at work preparing the building for another school year.

From fresh paint and new lightbulbs to freshly waxed floors and countless behind-the-scenes projects, their work helps keep our campus looking its best. πŸ’‘

They are busy from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they do to keep UVCC running smoothly. Thank you, Maintenance team!

Time for this week's Alumni Spotlight!

Meet Emily Campbell, a 2016 graduate of our Medical Technologies program and a Labor & Delivery Tech at Miami Valley Hospital.

Emily stays busy balancing school and work as she pursues her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Sinclair Community College while working night shift in Labor & Delivery. She is halfway through her program and is working toward her goal of becoming a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse.

She credits UVCC with laying the foundation for her medical knowledge and giving her the confidence to care for others. One of the most important lessons she learned was how to approach everyone with compassion, a skill she continues to use every day in healthcare.

Her advice to current students: UVCC is a great place to learn and grow. It was the start of a career she has enjoyed since 2016, and she encourages students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them. πŸ’™

Check out our new medical simulation rooms! 🩺

These state-of-the-art spaces give Adult Education nursing students (and occasionally Medical Careers Academy students) the opportunity to practice hands-on skills in a realistic healthcare setting.

From the observation room, instructors can adjust patient vitals and create real-world scenarios, helping students build confidence, strengthen critical thinking skills and prepare for the situations they’ll encounter in the field.

Jennie Bertke, UVCC Pre-Engineering Instructor at our Piqua Satellite location, recently attended the Ohio STEM Innovation Summit in Columbus.

The summit brings together educators, industry leaders, and partners from across Ohio who are committed to advancing high-quality STEM education. Sessions focused on creating strong learning cultures, innovative teaching practices, and pathways that prepare students for future careers.

As part of the experience, participants even put the design thinking process into action by building LEGO ducks during a hands-on activity! πŸ¦†

We took a short break from , but we are back!

Meet Kyle Stager, a 2005 graduate of our Carpentry program and now the instructor of UVCC's Construction Technologies program.

Kyle gets to do what he loves every day: share the knowledge he's gained over more than two decades in the construction industry and help students build their futures. His journey came full circle after graduating from UVCC and returning as a paraprofessional in the Carpentry and Building Maintenance programs. After earning his teaching license from The Ohio State University and spending time teaching construction in Columbus and at Fort Loramie High School, he returned to UVCC as the Construction Technologies instructor.

Kyle says one of the most valuable lessons he learned at UVCC was to keep an open mind when opportunities arise, a mindset that helped shape his career path.

His advice to current students: you only have one life. Live it to the fullest, give your best effort every day, and have no regrets. πŸ’™
