Great to meet the founders of The White Ribbon Project, Pierre and Heidi Onda on their Great American Road Trip to bring awareness for lung cancer. We were honored to host and share stories about lung cancer screening, an occupational hazard for firefighters. We have a personal connection to lung cancer in our inner circle, retired Assistant Chief Jeff Meckstroth, a lung cancer survivor since 2015, and his wife Rhonda, who is also our administrative specialist. Jeff & Rhonda advocate for lung cancer awareness and also championed a free lung cancer screening for Piqua and Troy firefighters through their work with Kettering Health Network. Lung Cancer Screening is now a component of our annual wellness physicals. We encourage the public to Follow The White Ribbon Project and learn more about their mission!

Anyone with lungs is at risk for lung cancer, the second leading cause is Radon. Thank you Governor Mike DeWine for recently signing legislation to raise awareness of the link between radon and lung cancer.

The Piqua Firefighters International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 252 would like to publicly announce its endorsement of the Trump/Pence ballot for the 2020 election. Our chapter supports the decision, opposite from the IAFF’s decision to endorse the democratic ticket, for several reasons. The Piqua Firefighters Local 252 have recognized President Donald J.Trump’s steadfast and very open display and vocal support of our public safety system, inclusive of our brothers and sisters in blue and that of our nation’s elite military forces, and have recognized that it has been consistent and persistent since the beginning of his presidency. Our city thrives, not only because of our supportive citizens, but also because of the safety and security provided by our police, fire, and EMS systems, and our military men and women.
We will join the four largest police unions and 700,000 law enforcement officers across the nation who have come
together to in supporting the sitting President of the United States for a second term. We will stand firm with our brothers in blue and the unions that represent them. The Piqua Firefighters IAFF Local 252 look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of the Piqua community and the surrounding areas and ask that you support our decision to endorse President Donald J. Trump and Michael R. Pence in the November 2020 election.
