In 1948, several schools in Pueblo County were still only one room buildings and students had little access to books and other educational materials. In response to this need, Pueblo District 70 created a mobile library known as the βBookmobileβ- the books, driver, and librarian were furnished by McClelland Public Library and the vehicle was built by Pueblo County. The Bookmobile served rural areas around Pueblo such as Beulah and Blende, and later served areas in town. The Bookmobile ran until the early 1980s. This photo from 1952 shows students in Blende waiting excitedly to exchange their books at the Bookmobile. Photo is courtesy of the PCCLD Special Collections Dept.
