💙 Wellness Wednesday 💙

June is National PTSD Awareness Month, and this week’s Wellness Wednesday is a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health.

PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. It impacts first responders, veterans, healthcare workers, and everyday people in our communities.

At Double Creek Fire Department, we understand that not all scars are visible. That’s why it’s important to check in on one another, offer support, and help create a culture where people feel comfortable talking about mental health and seeking help when they need it.

Today, take a moment to reach out to a friend, family member, coworker, or neighbor. A simple “How are you doing?” can mean more than you realize.

Remember:
❤️ It’s okay to not be okay.
🤝 It’s okay to ask for help.
💙 You are never alone.

Together, we can raise awareness, break the stigma, and support those affected by PTSD.

☀️ Tip Tuesday: Beat the Summer Heat & Stay Safe! ☀️

As temperatures rise, it’s important to protect yourself and your family from heat-related illnesses. Here are a few simple ways to stay safe this summer:

💧 Drink plenty of water — don’t wait until you’re thirsty
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle
🔥 Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
⚠️ Watch for signs of heat exhaustion like dizziness, nausea, or heavy sweating

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and look out for one another this summer! ❤️

🚨 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Saturday 🚨

This week, Double Creek Fire Department is proud to recognize Firefighter Gracie Tilley for her dedication, compassion, and commitment to serving others both in and out of the fire service.

Gracie has been involved in the fire service for approximately 3 years and continues to make a positive impact on our department and community every day. She is an EMT, CPR certified, and currently works as a CNA at Northern Regional Hospital while also attending Surry Community College to pursue her nursing degree.

When asked what she enjoys most about being part of the department, Gracie shared that she loves the family atmosphere and being part of something bigger than herself while helping the community.

We are thankful for Gracie’s heart for service, strong work ethic, and dedication to helping others. Thank you, Gracie, for everything you do for our department and our community! ❤️🚒
