Crimes Against Children Task Force

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the official formation of the Crimes Against Children Task Force, a joint investigative initiative between the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office focused solely on crimes involving child victimization and exploitation.

The development of the Crimes Against Children Task Force has been an area of focus for several months as Sheriff Brad Ellison, Sergeant Tyler Sizemore, Sheriff James “Boomer” Muncy, and Deputy Brent Cline worked collaboratively to establish this much-needed regional partnership.

The task force will be operated by Sergeant Tyler Sizemore of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Brent Cline of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators assigned to the task force will work across county lines and jurisdictions to provide a coordinated and seamless investigative response for cases involving crimes against children by working closely with Stop The Hurt Child Advocacy Center, WV DoHS, and other community resources to ensure the best outcomes possible for our most vulnerable community members, our children.

The mission of the Crimes Against Children Task Force is to strengthen investigative efforts, improve interagency cooperation, enhance digital forensic and investigative capabilities, and ensure child victims and their families receive a professional, thorough, and trauma-informed response.

In addition to strengthening services already provided by both agencies, the task force will actively pursue grant funding opportunities and additional funding sources to further expand investigative capabilities, training, technology, and victim-centered services throughout the region.

Sheriff Ellison stated, “Protecting children will always remain one of the highest priorities of this office. This task force represents a major step forward in ensuring these investigations receive the attention, coordination, and resources they deserve.”

Additional information regarding task force operations, community outreach efforts, and future initiatives will be released at a later date.

As April marks Child Abuse Awareness month, members of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office took a stand for the WVCAN High 5 for Kids initiative.

Abuse doesn’t thrive because people don’t care;
it thrives when people stay silent.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office stands with WVCAN and Stop the Hurt, Inc in sending a clear message:

👉 If you see something, say something.
👉 If something feels off, trust it.
👉 One call could change—or save—a child’s life.

We investigate these cases. We see the reality.
And we can tell you this without hesitation—silence protects the wrong people.

Be the reason a child is heard.
Be the reason a child is safe.

1. Purpose:

The Wyoming County Sheriff's Department (hereinafter referred to as the W.C.S.D.) utilizes social media platforms to advance its mission, enhance transparency, and foster trust among citizens. The W.C.S.D.’s social media accounts serve the specific purpose of sharing information about government services and programs. Social media encompasses any website or application that allows users to create, share, and interact with content (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok). Please note that W.C.S.D. social media accounts do not function as an exhaustive calendar of community events and activities. The W.C.S.D. does not endorse or support organizations, messages, or entities it may follow or interact with on social networks. These interactions do not necessarily imply a relationship between the W.C.S.D. and any other organization or individual. 2. Approval and Administration:

W.C.S.D. staff and personnel will manage the W.C.S.D.’s social media accounts. However, these accounts are not continuously monitored and are rarely monitored on weekends. W.C.S.D. staff members are responsible for ensuring that activities associated with the W.C.S.D.’s accounts on each network are relevant and adhere to this policy. For prompt responses, please use designated channels for formal requests and reports of criminal activity and disturbances. In the event of emergencies, call 911. The W.C.S.D. will maintain only one account per platform unless a division or program seeks permission and receives approval from W.C.S.D. command staff or designated authority to launch a distinct account. Individual divisions are encouraged to coordinate with designated personnel to utilize centralized W.C.S.D. social media accounts to disseminate public messages about their services, operations, events, and achievements.

3. Comment Policy:

Comments posted on, connected to, or directly associated with W.C.S.D. social media accounts or their content may be monitored and are subject to moderation. The W.C.S.D. reserves the right to hide, report, or remove comments or links that violate this policy, including those that:

The W.C.S.D. reserves the right to report the activity of users on its social media accounts if it violates the platform's terms of service. Consistent and frequent abuse of this policy may result in a user being blocked from posting on W.C.S.D. social media accounts. If you believe you were blocked in error, please contact Sheriff Bradley G. Ellison ([email protected]) or Chief Deputy Don Cook ([email protected]).

4. Compliance with Laws:

This social media policy and the social media accounts of the W.C.S.D. are intended to comply with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies. Over the past two weeks, members of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office participated in specialized D.A.R.E. Officer Training, joining law enforcement professionals from across the region to strengthen their skills in youth outreach, prevention education, and community engagement.

This training prepares our deputies to deliver the D.A.R.E. curriculum in local schools and other community organizations — empowering students to make safe, healthy, and informed decisions. We’re proud of the hard work and dedication our team has shown throughout this intensive program.

Thank you to the instructors and partner agencies who helped make this training possible. We look forward to serving our schools and community with the knowledge gained.

Protecting and educating our youth remains a top priority. Stronger together for Wyoming County. - D.A.R.E. America International & Greenbrier County Schools
