This is not the way I imagined my last few days in office would be like. Our software provider, Cott Systems, of Columbus, Ohio suffered a major malicious attack on their systems Christmas Day. This is a company that has provided our office with excellent service for the past nine years. We have never been down more than an hour, we have been provided skilled assistance any time we've had a problem and had this assistance almost immediately. Yesterday and today have been different. They cannot get their system up while they try to repair whatever damage has been done For us this means

1. We cannot record any new deeds.
2. We cannot access any already recorded deeds
3. We cannot issue Marriage Licenses
4. We have little communication with our provider while they frantically try to fix this.

What we can do is

1. Constantly apologize to every person who walks in or calls and needs something done.
2. Constantly retry to connect hoping that this time it will work.
3. Repeat steps one and two.

While all this is beyond my control, I am responsible for this office and the buck stops here. I am in constant communication with my sales rep, who has nothing to do with the systems side, and have let him know in no uncertain terms how horrible this is on our end. Please try to bear with us during this most unfortunate situation. I am getting off here and going back to try to reconnect once again.

Noel Elementary from 6-8. Two big rows of some of the best looking food I’ve ever seen, plus our chicken and noodles. It’s worth a trip.

The Recorder of Deeds office will be closed tomorrow, Dec. 31, for the county's observance of New Year's Day. We will be open all day today to record any documents that need to be recorded and issue marriage licenses until 3:45pm. At that point we will close out our year. We will be open Monday morning at 8:00 sharp to start another year. The Collector and the Assessor will both be open tomorrow to make sure everyone has a chance to pay their taxes before the end of the year and will be closed Monday to give their employees the New Year's holiday. Happy New Years!!!

We will be closed from 12 Noon until 2:30 tomorrow, July 2, in honor of our friend and former Circuit Clerk Jennifer Mikeska. I realize there may be people coming in during that time to get a marriage license to use on the long 3 day weekend, but I will be back and reopen at 2:30p.m. and take care of all business before closing at 4:00pm.

On June 12, 1920, Recorder of Deeds Albert William (A.W.) Chenoweth recorded a sale of land from Isaac Spencer (Spen) King to Samuel Venton (S.V.) and Minerva Carnell Allman. This was the first sale of property in Pineville's new subdivision Valley View Addition. By the end of the day, nine more sales would be recorded and within two weeks a total of 18 sales would be made.

As homes went up in this former cow pasture, the addition began to be called New Town and when I moved there 66 years ago it still went by that name and to us old timers it still is New Town.

On June 22, 1920 the Kings sold the property I now own to Jasper Samuel and Ella Armstrong. Soon after, they built part of the house we now live in.

Happy 100th Birthday Valley View Addition

Attention !!! Starting Monday, March 23, the McDonald County Courthouse will be closed to the public. We will still be here working, but to protect the employees from the public and vice versa, we will be doing our part in this fight against the Coronavirus. This will bring about several changes in the way the
Recorder of Deeds office conducts business.

As far as our recording of documents, we are already recording around 50% of our deeds online through E-Filing. Another 40+% of our work comes through the mail. It is the walk-in business that will have to be done another way and most of it can be simply mailed to

Recorder of Deeds
PO Box 606
Pineville, MO 64856

Recording fees in Missouri are $24 for the first page and $3 for each additional page.

IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING FEEL FREE TO CALL 417 223 7523

If you need copies of deeds, these can be accessed for a fee online though our website. Again call if you are having problems.

For certified copies of Marriage Licenses you can mail us $9 (cash or check) and give us the names of the applicants and the approximate date. Please send a self addressed stamped envelope to ensure prompt return. (If you are across the street at the License Bureau and need one immediatley , call us with the information and meet us at the Downstairs South Door with $9 and we can trade.

As for obtaining a Marriage License to get married with, this presents challenges. Here is the way we plan to proceed. We have the application form on our website.
http://www.mcdonaldcountygov.com/depts/recorder.php

This will need to be printed and completed; as always call if you have questions. Both of you need to appear with your picture ID (driver's license) and $60 in cash in the exact amount, and your completed application. Call us to meet you at the South door of the Courthouse, the walk-in lower level. We don't take checks or accept credit cards for Marriage Licenses. We will meet you outside, check your ID, take your money and application and return inside. As soon as possible (as short as 10 minutes, maybe longer depending on workflow), we will return with your signed, sealed and ready for the wedding Marriage License. If you don't have access to a print off copy of the application, call us and we will provide one.

After the wedding, you will need to mail the completed license back to us at our address listed above. Do this as soon as possible
and definitely within 10 days of the ceremony. Please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope and we will return your certified copy in the afternoon mail of the day we receive it. I cannot overemphasize how important it is to get the completed license back to us.

As for genealogy, for the most part, that will have to wait. If you want to send a request for information , we will try to respond if we can do it and not short change our other duties.

I'm sure I've left many things out here, but its a start. We may never pass this way again, but for certain we have never passed this way before. Everything we are doing, we are feeling our way along. Please understand we are doing this for your safety....... and ours. Hopefully we can get this under control and go back to our usual way of doing the business of the county.

Thank You
