Is it illegal for a passenger to ride with their feet on the dashboard?
The short answer: Noโฆ but thereโs more to it.
In most cases, no law specifically prohibits a passenger from putting their feet on the dashboard. However, if it obstructs the driverโs view or creates a hazard, it could become an issue.
Hereโs the part that really matters.
Modern airbags deploy at speeds exceeding 100 mph and are designed to protect people who are seated properly. If your feet are on the dashboard when an airbag deploys, your legs can be driven into your face and upper body in an instant.
The result can be devastating: broken legs, shattered hips, pelvic fractures, facial injuries, and serious spinal trauma. These injuries often require multiple surgeries and lengthy rehabilitation.
And while being flexible is impressive, an airbag is not the kind of yoga instructor you want helping you discover a new stretch.
So while it may not be illegal, itโs a habit that can turn a minor crash into a life-changing event.
