🌟 International Excellence Recognized! 🌟

Dooly County Schools proudly celebrates Sa’Riya Johnson, an outstanding sixth-grade student at Dooly County Middle School, who was recognized during the Dooly County Board of Education’s June meeting for her remarkable accomplishments.

Sa’Riya has earned international recognition by receiving the Distinction Award in the 2026 Lumiere Junior Scholars Essay Contest. Selected from more than 500 essays representing 48 countries, she also received a $750 scholarship toward the Lumiere Junior Research Program—an incredible achievement that highlights her exceptional writing and academic talent.

In addition to this prestigious honor, Sa’Riya is:

📚✨ Planning for Excellence Starts Now! ✨📚

Our 6–12 teachers are already hard at work preparing for an outstanding school year! Yesterday was the kickoff of intentional planning focused on delivering high-quality English Language Arts instruction that will engage, challenge, and inspire our middle and high school students.

We are excited to begin this work under the leadership of Dr. Amilia Woolfork, our new Director of Teaching and Learning for grades 6-12. Her vision and commitment to instructional excellence are helping to set the stage for a successful year of teaching and learning. We are thankful for Mrs. Uvonda Mitchell from Chattahoochee Flint RESA for coming and facilitating the learning. Here’s to a year of growth, collaboration, and excellence!

🛼✨ Our Pre-K Transition to Kindergarten students had an exciting adventure this past week with a field trip to Level Up Skate Center in Macon, Georgia! ✨🛼

As our young learners prepare to take the next big step into Kindergarten, they enjoyed a day filled with fun, laughter, friendship, and new experiences. The trip provided an opportunity for students to celebrate their accomplishments, build confidence, and create lasting memories with their classmates.

A special thank you to our staff and families for supporting this wonderful experience. Even our bus drivers joined in on the fun!!

The Dooly County School System is providing notice of the upcoming destruction of certain special education records. If you are a former student with a disability who has reached the age of 22, this notice applies to you!

These records may be needed for Social Security benefits, postsecondary accommodations, vocational rehabilitation services, and more — so don’t wait!

📅 Deadline to Request Records: September 1, 2026

🍎📚 Preparing for a Successful Start in Pre-K & Kindergarten! 📚🍎

As the new school year approaches, families can help their little learners build confidence and independence during mealtimes at school. Simple practice at home can make a big difference!

✅ Wash hands before meals
✅ Use polite words like “please,” “thank you,” and “no thank you”
✅ Practice good table manners
✅ Clean up after meals
✅ Use an indoor voice
✅ Open milk cartons and peel fruits independently
✅ Try new foods and build a healthy plate
✅ Practice friendly conversation with new friends

These small skills help students feel more comfortable and successful in the cafeteria from day one!

We look forward to welcoming our youngest learners and helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

📚✏️ Planning for Excellence Begins Now! ✏️📚

Our Dooly County K-8 Academy Math Team is hard at work preparing for an outstanding 2026-2027 school year! Over the past three days, our math teachers engaged in collaborative planning and professional learning to front-load instruction, align standards, and develop high-quality lessons and assessments that will support student success from Day One.

A special thank you to Ms. Carlotta Brown, Instructional Specialist, and Mrs. Kristen Anderson, Assistant Principal, for leading this important work and supporting our teachers as they strengthen instructional practices and plan for student achievement.

Together, we are building a strong foundation for mathematics excellence and ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
