Tonto Natural Bridge State Park is a 160 acre park tucked in the narrow canyon of Pine Creek in Arizona's Transition Zone. The park's centerpiece is 183 foot high Tonto Natural Bridge, thought to be the world's largest travertine bridge, spanning over pine creek with a tunnel 400 feet long and 150 feet wide. Hiking trails snake through the canyon and under the bridge, immersing visitors in the bio

diverse riparian habitat of the creek. Up on top of the bridge, picnic tables and a paved walking path offer a more relaxed experience for a day in the mountains. Detailed information on hiking trails and park policies can be found at: https://azstateparks.com/tonto/

SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

Arizona State Parks strongly believes that social media is a tool for consumers and communities to receive updates. All posters are encouraged to agree or disagree on any positions on any of our social media outlets. We remind individuals who post, that children, youth and families have access to all of these posts and we want to maximize participation that is free from intimidation or bullying. Name-calling, intimidation or bullying of other social media participants will never be tolerated. Abusive, excessively disruptive and harassing posts will also be considered prohibitive of the fair and safe space we intend to maintain. Posts with unrelated information or political agendas will be removed. We will monitor communications and take appropriate action in order to ensure that these policies are consistently adhered to.

Flash Floods play a vital role in the regeneration of Arizona Sycamores, whose bright maple-like leaves form a towering canopy over the gorge of Pine Creek. 🌳

Sycamores rely on periodic floods as their gardeners, clearing space, scouring channels, and depositing fresh sediment to create ideal nurseries where young trees can take hold.

Once the waters recede, come see these flood pioneers for yourself in the depths of Pine Creek Canyon.

There's a reason the trails are currently closed 👀

Park staff may periodically close trails and access under the bridge to create safety during periods where flash floods can occur or are expected. Flash floods are part of life at Tonto Natural Bridge and throughout the desert southwest⛈. These dramatic events, which can damage life and property, as tragically seen in Globe, also help to shape and manage the ecosystem of Pine Creek and other Southwest Canyons.

Check the forecast before any adventure. Have a backup plan and be ready to move to higher ground if you see or hear rushing water. Never attempt to cross flooded roadways, paths, or washes; turn around, don't drown. Just 6 inches of swift-moving water is fast enough to sweep a person off their feet. Let alone a 5 foot surge as seen here!

Today's Wildlife Wednesday Might Rattle some folks...🐍

Say hello to the Arizona Black Rattlesnake. This snake is found in the mountains of south-central Arizona 🏔. It can reach 3 feet long and feeds on birds, lizards, and small mammals. These snakes prefer to hide or flee when encountered, so give it some space, take a pic, and tell a ranger where you saw it!

Shake, rattle, and roll!!!⛈

Monsoon storms bring crashing thunder and spears of lightning⚡️ to the Natural Bridge between June 15 and September 30. Downpours of rain can cause flash flooding in Pine Creek, rocks can come down on the entrance road, and conditions can change rapidly. Are you prepared for the monsoon?
