*Pine River community members* Please be aware of phone scammers calling local businesses. Scammers will call posing as a law enforcement agency. They have been stating that they are investigating an employee for fraud (ironically). They have been requesting some kind of access to money or financial information. Please educate business staff and inform vulnerable community members to verify any callers that may seem to be strange. Law enforcement agencies will not call to request money or access to your banking information. Don’t be afraid to hang up on scam callers and contact your local law enforcement agency yourself. Do not participate in handling money, purchasing gift cards, or any other financial transactions on the phone with a caller who you do not know. If you have questions about, or would like to report a scam caller, please contact your local law enforcement agency.

FYI Pine River community members - It has been reported that a local business owner has had his name and business impersonated by phone. Reporting party stated that he arranged to meet a customer at his residence for an estimate for services. When he arrived at the residence, the customer advised him that he received a phone call from his business' correct phone number and spoke to a male party who attempted to arrange similar services the customer requested. I would like to advise community members to be aware of who they are speaking with on the phone in reference to making business arrangements. Do not rely solely on caller ID to verify who is calling you. Do not arrange to send anyone money or give any of your personal information to someone you are not sure is legitimate. Computer technology, AI, and virtual bots are being used in attempt to defraud unsuspecting people and then disappear. It is incredibly difficult to track down money and prosecute responsible actors if a fraudulent financial transaction has been made. If you have any questions, please call your local law enforcement agency.

Thanks to Officer Tulenchik for requesting these signs from MnDOT. There have been growing concerns from the community about vehicles using the right turn lanes for passing on State 371 at the County Rd. 1 and County Rd. 2/42 intersections. We hope this will help to educate motorists about the driving rules and prevent accidents.

FYI Pine River and surrounding community members. Someone called the city office to report that they had received a scam call from what appeared to be from the "City of Pine River" on their caller ID, however, the number did not match the city office. The reporting party stated that the caller was silent initially but then sounded like a robo caller and was trying to talk to her about insurance. I'd like the community to be aware that this has happened and the city office does not deal with insurance. If you receive a call that you suspect is not genuine, make sure to verify the information with the city clerk's office at 218-587-2440.
