SMOKE & SOUND SCHEDULE: September

Fort Benning weapons firing throughout the month includes Abrams Tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, .50-caliber, and other small-arms.

There will be multiple ranges firing various small arms, and community members may notice more sounds during these times. Cloudy days amplify sounds resulting in sound waves traveling farther and sounding louder.

20260812 – The thunderstorms that rolled through the local area were responsible for numerous power outages around the county and this morning some power outages remain.
Georgia Power is currently reporting outages along Acres of Shade Drive in the Cataula community, and near Pierce Road in the Waverly Hall area.
Diverse Power is still reporting an outage along SR 116 in the Pine Mountain Valley community.
Our unofficial rain gauge recorded nearly 2-1/4 inches of rain that fell in a very short period of time. Feel free to share your rain gauge readings below.

Georgia Power and Diverse Power are reporting numerous outages around the county.

Before heading out the door, take a moment to check these first-day essentials:

βœ… Confirm your student's bus route and pickup/drop-off times
βœ… Make sure your student is registered and ready to go
βœ… Pack backpacks with school supplies
βœ… Eat a healthy breakfast and bring a water bottle

Keeping you advised because many people in our area enjoy recreational activities at West Point Lake.

πŸ“’ Heads up, West Point Lake visitors!

Starting Aug. 1, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin lowering lake levels at West Point Dam to support upcoming maintenance work.

⏬ The lake will gradually drop from 635 feet to 625 feet, with levels expected to reach 630 feet by Labor Day. Full drawdown to 625 feet should happen by Oct. 1.

βš™οΈ Maintenance on the spillway structure will run from Oct. 1, 2026 to Jan. 15, 2027. After that, the lake will return to normal levels as conditions allow.
