Storms After Midnight Tonight..

Strong to Severe storms buikd in Oklahoma starting late Friday afternoon with some large hail and damaging wind risk.

This complex will start diving South in the overnight.

Watching for this complex to move into North Texas after midnight. They will weaken the further South they go. Strongest storms in the Northern counties North of HWY 380 overnight with some hail and stronger wind gust, lightning, and heavy rain.

A weaker complex as they arrive into Dallas in the wee hours of the morning and then scattered showers South of I-20 before fizzling out.

Watching for scattered strong to severe storms to develop after 5pm today.

A conditional risk remains in place if the cap is able to break later this afternoon. The forecast is for low 90s before a cold front moves in tonight. Overall 30% coverage for the metroplex.

These would be capable of some large hail, damaging winds, lightning and pockets of heavy rain through early evening.

I’ll be watching if the cap is able to break later this afternoon.

Please help us congratulate FF’s Travis Jeter and Timothy Aja on completing their probationary year.

Moderate Severe Risk Upgrade…

The morning convection has fizzled keeping the atmosphere more unstable for the main system to arrive.

Watching the triple point by Wichita Falls for storms to rapidly develop in the next hour or two. Those will dive Southeast into the DFW metroplex.

Big hail, if not giant hail potential possible from the Storm Prediction Center. Tornadoes possible and damaging wind to 70+mph. Stay ahead if the storm with weathercall. See link in the comments ⬇️

This Is Concerning…

The latest high resolution guidance puts the most significant updrafts right over the DFW metroplex.

Potential for big hail and some tornadoes 🌪️

Storns building toward Bowie will slowly build Southeast.

Main timeframe for North Texas 11am - 7pm

Enhanced Risk Expanded This Morning.

All of North Texas in the upgraded significant severe weather today. Main risk is Very large hail up to 4” in diameter. A couple of tornadoes possible and 70mph winds.

* Not everyone will see severe weather *

Main timeline 4pm to 9pm

Note: Storms NW by Wichita Falls with Severe Watch. Some may break off early and start moving Southeast later this morning. With newest data some storms may start moving into the metroplex toward 12pm. Stay weather aware. Multiple ways to get warnings.

Increasing Instability This Afternoon..

Latest guidance shows increasing instability after 5pm with convective available potential energy over 5,000 which is 5x the normal thunderstorm. A weakening capping inversion in Oklahoma has a better likely hood of breaking to turn storms severe very quickly. Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes in Oklahoma, if the cap breaks.

For North Texas instability is very high, but a stronger CAP. After 5pm it does show a little weakness that may allow one or two cells to go above the boundary layer. If that occurs they would turn severe very quickly in this environment.

Main timeframe 5pm to Midnight for isolated activity. I’ll be watching.
