💧 DID YOU KNOW? Stormwater Is a Utility! 🌧️

Just like water and sewer, stormwater is an important part of our Town’s infrastructure.

When it rains, stormwater flows from rooftops, streets, parking lots, and other surfaces into drains, ditches, pipes, culverts, creeks, and streams. Maintaining this system helps:

🌧️ Reduce flooding
🏠 Protect homes and property
🛣️ Protect streets and infrastructure
💧 Improve water quality
🌿 Protect our local streams and waterways

Stormwater infrastructure may not always be easy to see, but it plays an important role in keeping Pilot Mountain safe, clean, and resilient.

🚽💧 Think Before You Flush, Pilot Mountain!

What goes down the toilet can have a big impact on our sewer system. Items that don’t break down properly can contribute to clogs, backups, and costly problems.

✅ Only flush:
Toilet paper and human waste

🚫 Please DO NOT flush:
Wipes — even those labeled “flushable”
Feminine hygiene products
Paper towels
Medications
Fats, oils, or grease

Remember: Just because it goes down the drain doesn’t mean it belongs there!

Small choices can make a big difference in protecting our wastewater system and keeping Pilot Mountain flowing smoothly. 💙

A new month is here, and there’s plenty to look forward to in our community!

As summer begins winding down and we head toward fall, it’s a great time to enjoy our beautiful surroundings, visit downtown, support our local businesses, and spend a little time with friends and neighbors.

We’re looking forward to another great month in Pilot Mountain! 💙

City Water Update: Please rest assured that water distributed through the City of Mount Airy water system remains safe for human consumption. The City’s treated water is tested multiple times each day for chlorine, turbidity, pH, and other required water-quality measures. The City’s water continues to meet or exceed all applicable federal and state drinking water standards. City staff remains in regular communication with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). DEQ has reviewed the situation and concurs that the City is taking the appropriate steps to address and mitigate the taste and odor concerns being experienced by customers. The City of Mount Airy operates a large and complex water distribution system consisting of more than 200 miles of water lines serving customers throughout our region. Because of the size of the system, improvements in taste and odor may occur at different rates in different areas. At this time, there is no definitive timeline for when all earthy taste and odor will be completely eliminated throughout the system. However, City staff continues to work diligently each day to improve water quality and address these concerns as quickly as possible. You can call the Water Treatment Plant at 336-786-3595 for questions or to have them come test your water at your resident or buisness.
