Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day, and their courage will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends, we ask our community to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.

From all of us at the Pilot K**b Fire Protection District, we honor the fallen and extend our deepest gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Pilot K**b Fire Protection District is proud to announce a major milestone in strengthening our emergency response capabilities.

Through the generous support of the William R. Edgar Charitable Foundation, we were awarded a grant of nearly $38,000 to train and equip our personnel in Swiftwater Rescue and High/Low Angle Rope Rescue operations. This achievement would not have been possible without their support, and we are extremely grateful for their investment in the safety of our community.

We would also like to thank our community and Board of Directors for their continued support in making these advancements possible.

As a result of this funding, the district has acquired:
• An inflatable rescue boat
• Six trained and fully equipped Swiftwater Rescue Technicians
• Five trained and fully equipped Swiftwater Rescue Operators
• Extensive rescue rope and rigging equipment
• High/Low Angle Rope Rescue equipment

In addition, the Missouri Division of Fire Safety has awarded the district nearly $20,000 in additional training at no cost, which will allow us to further expand our capabilities with additional Swiftwater Rescue Technicians and Boat Operators in the future.

With this new equipment and specialized training, Pilot K**b Fire Protection District is better prepared than ever to respond to emergencies within our district while also providing mutual aid support to neighboring agencies when needed.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission of protecting and serving our community.

April brought a decrease in call volume for the Pilot K**b Fire Protection District, with 24 calls for service and 1 working structure fire. While the number of incidents slowed, our commitment to readiness did not.

Our members logged an impressive 365 hours of combined training throughout the month.

Training focused heavily on residential structure fire search and rescue, sharpening critical skills that directly impact life safety on the fireground. Additionally, several members advanced their capabilities by completing Swiftwater/Flood Rescue Operations and Swiftwater Rescue Technician courses.

Even during quieter operational periods, we continue to invest in training to ensure we are prepared when our community needs us most.

Thank you to our members for their dedication and to our community for your continued support.

Members of the Pilot K**b Fire Protection District recently completed an intensive, hands-on training focused on Swiftwater Rescue Technician certification.

Assistant Chief Colwell, Captain Sitzes, Captain Horton (already certified), Lieutenant Schnedler, Firefighter Vermaak, and Firefighter Clements spent two days immersed in high-intensity, real-world rescue scenarios and techniques. This training was conducted locally by Downstream Rescue Solutions, whose instructors delivered an outstanding program—thank you for your professionalism and expertise.

With these six members, alongside our additional Swiftwater Rescue Operations-certified personnel, which includes Chief Stirts, Deputy Chief Kitchell, Assistant Chief Swaringam, Lieutenant Fraulini, Firefighter M. Bachand, and Cadet D. Bachand, our department continues to strengthen its readiness and capability to respond effectively to future swiftwater emergencies.
